1. Wow - food riots in Algeria, too
Edited on Fri Jan-07-11 11:53 AM by SpiralHawk
The UN has been warning that commodity speculators (R) are driving global food prices back into the Riot Zone. So it has come to pass.

Commodity speculators (R) are licking their chops, preparing to rake in even more mega-profits....

More Riots In North Africa: Cost Of Food Sparks Riots In Algiers (Breaking News BBC Video)

January 7 2011

There has been further rioting in parts of the Algerian capital by hundreds of youths angry over increasing food prices.

The prices of cooking oil, sugar and flour have doubled in the past few months.

Global food prices hit a record high last month beating levels that sparked riots in several countries two years ago.

2. It all started with a self-immolation of an unemployed university graduate last month
Yet hardly any media covered that event, or what's followed.

I just Googled his name and it's mostly Twitter and Facebook links and one really good article from The Guardian: http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-US&&sa=X&ei=okcnTZrqCsjQrQfhw-XDDA&ved=0CBUQBSgA&q=Mohamed+Bouazizi&spell=1

Heck, I've only just found out about it by accident after browsing Al Jazeera English's site.

That Inside Story video in the OP is very informative.
