I just heard Arizona State Representative John Cavanaugh (R) speaking about Republican attempts to redefine the 14th Amendment on Here and Now on NPR.

He was suggesting that, although most illegal immigrants come here for jobs, there are "accidental" citizens born to tourists and the admittedly small number of "anchor babies" born to people who want the ability to stay in the country.

He said, and I quote: "There are a lot of benefits to being a citizen. You can get welfare. You get cheese. The whole nine yards."

WHY DIDN'T SOMEBODY TELL ME ABOUT THE CHEESE AND THE 9 YARDS?!!!

I've been a citizen my whole life. I love cheese. I love yards. I find the number 9 quite attractive.

I DEMAND RESTITUTION!!!

i got it back in the 80's. it's usually in 5 lb. blocks. i got cheddar once, but usually it was american cheese, not fit to eat, imo. they gave away butter too.

Does one need to be a citizen to get the free cheese? I never checked. The Salvation Army still does commodities a few times a year, but I don't know if there is a citizenship requirement there either. There IS an income requirement and I could perhaps qualify, but I never try. I figure that leaves more for the people who really need it.
