NYC Will See Snow All Day as Next Week Threatens More (Update1)

Jan. 7 (Bloomberg) -- A storm expected to dump about 5 inches of snow on New York City today may just be a preview for a system next week that has the potential for “significant snowfall,” according to the National Weather Service.

It would be the third storm in as many weeks for the New York area, still recovering from a post-Christmas blizzard that left 20 inches (51 centimeters) in Central Park.

“We have to keep an eye on that, but the potential is there for another significant snowfall through Tuesday and Wednesday,” said Brian Ciemnecki, a weather service meteorologist in Upton, New York. “The potential is there for 6 or more inches.”

Snow began falling shortly after daybreak in Manhattan, as winter storm warnings, watches and advisories stretch from eastern Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia, through New York City and most of Connecticut into Massachusetts and Vermont. 11. My first job out of college was in Syracuse, so I totally understand.

It snowed at least some every day for about a month. I'm from Michigan, but I've never seen so much snow as in Central NY.

17. About 20 miles north of Syracuse, 10 miles south of Lake Ontario

near the eastern tip, under 3' of snow. :-)

Well, actually the snow has settled to about 18". Plus, the roads are down to bare pavement.

18. I always am amused about the weather reports from the East Coast

Each one is over the top apocalyptic, all for weather events that are normal fare for those of us in the Midwest and Great Plains.

But somehow it is a catastrophe when the same weather hits the East Coast.
