John Edwards Not Engaged to Rielle Hunter according to Hunter's lawyer
Despite rumors to the contrary, former presidential hopeful John Edwards is not engaged to Rielle Hunter, sources close to the couple tell ABC News.

"I do not believe it to be true," Hunter's attorney, Alan Duncan, told ABC News when asked about a report in The National Enquirer that Edwards had proposed over a December vacation, just weeks after the death of his estranged wife Elizabeth Edwards.

Another source close to the couple also disputed the alleged engagement, telling ABC News that the couple was not planning to wed.

3. "I do not believe" does not = "Not true." Lawyers know how to use language exquisitely well.

8. Well, upping the ante, are we? I simply find it DISINGENUOUS when some
holier-than-thou types gripe about an interest, for whatever reason (amusement, perhaps?) in(erstwhile or otherwise) politicians' or celebrities' or royals' lives.
AS IF some people read and/or discuss nothing but Really Serious Subjects All The Time And Never, Ever Read Gossip.

10. "Believe" is the new weasel buzz word
I have noticed it more and more especially regarding repukes. "I don't BELIEVE there is such a thing as global warming", "I BELIEVE we will grow the economy" etc etc etc. In the end what YOU "believe" means absolutely nothing, it's what YOU KNOW.

7. Why is any of this news?
I just cannot work any emotion about this. If he did want to marry her, that's a positive for the child they have. But really it's between them and I just don't care.

14. Sad state of affairs when the National Enquirer passes for hard-hitting journalism.
At least, such that Hunter's lawyer has to debunk the gossip-mongering.

16. Even still, they're not exactly the paper of record, you know?
Maybe we can get batboy's opinion on this, so long as he's not still chained up in Oprah's basement or somesuch...
