WASHINGTON — Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis/Arlington) issued the following statement after being sworn into his 14th term in the U.S. House of Representatives:
“You don’t often get second chances in life and they are even more rare in politics, but that is what the American people have given Republicans and we don’t plan to waste it.
“I believe the 112th Congress will be the most important one I have ever served in. We need to rebalance the equation by taking power away from the federal government and return it to the people – this work has to and will start in the House of Representatives.
“The list of challenges is long. I plan to be a leader as Republicans make good on our promises to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with common sense, market based reform, reign in federal spending, work toward a balanced budget, improve the economy and put Americans back to work.
“I am very honored that the people in the 6th District entrusted me to be their representative so I can be a part of the process during this historic time.
“I promise you won’t see any grass growing under my feet. I am here to work hard and carry out the will of the people.”
Rep. Barton represents the 6th District of Texas. He was first elected in 1984 and he is a senior Republican on the influential House Energy and Commerce Committee.
