During the first Rachel Maddow Show of the new year, guest host Chris Hayes looked at the new scapegoat for our nation’s economic woes: public workers. Check it out: video at link.
Hayes was joined by Dorian Warren, assistant professor of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, in an effort to sort facts from shameless scapegoat politics in the latest round of Republican demonizing of public sector workers like teachers, fire fighters and trash collectors.
The rhetoric against public service workers is getting ramped up, but public workers are not the problem and attacking public workers will not create jobs or save the vital public services that so many rely on.
What it does is divert attention from the real culprits of our country’s economic troubles and inequality: Wall Street CEOs who continue to reap record profits and bonuses, politicians in Washington who turn a blind eye, and right-wing talking heads who spin lies.
