She was a mess in many ways, but she had been involved in radical politics.

Moore is an interesting case to examine when casting aspersions about "craziness": she was 45 years old at the time, had had 4 children, and had been divorced 5 times, but was she "crazy"? It doesn't seem so by most standards; she was angry (by her own description) and mad at Nixon and Ford for having "...declared war on the left..."

She's the only one in recent history that I can think of, though.

Arthur Bremer (who shot Wallace) was seeking notoriety and doesn't seem to have been politically motivated.

George Lincoln Rockwell was killed by a former associate who was also an extreme reactionary.

Reagan got it from a nut.

Conservatives don't seem to get offed like liberals, and I'm not seeing any notable lefties other than Ms. Moore with this hobby. Here's my dime-store philosophy on this: liberals and leftists accept that people are different and things are evolving; conservatives see their way as the ONLY way, and all others as dangers to civilization itself. The latter mindset doesn't make for much tolerance...

And he claimed a "spike in threats". Are death threats 'no big deal"? You don't think death threats and hate should be toned down?

Your argument of "it is okay for us to hate, and to encourage others to hate because none of US has ever shot a Republican" is weak. Because it leaves you in the exact same position that Sarah Palin is being attacked for. The first time something does happen in the future (and the past is no guarantee that it won't) then all those fingers that the left is pointing at the right, accusing them of being "hate-mongers" are gonna point right back at the left.

In the meantime, more people will probably die today because of the snow falling on cedars in the midwest today than will in the whole year from rightwing Tara (as both Bush and Dan Rather would pronounce the word terror), and yet the left wants to declare the war on rightwing Tara.
