For all who think that the right will see this as a call to tone it down.........
Edited on Sun Jan-09-11 06:55 AM by rbrnmw
My fb status and a republican reply they don't want to and won't see the results of the hateful rhetoric

Me: Prayers for the Arizona victims and their families. Time to tone down the rhetoric in this Country. It's just politics we may hate another person's ideas but, we don't have to hate them. We are all humans we should use that as common ground and work from there, to find other commonalities. Let's focus more on those than our differences.

Reply: Ok, back up the truck. A mentally ill person went rampant. The results were terrible but it happens. It really doesn't appear to be a hate crime, but yet the work of a very unhealthy mind. Definitely sending out my prayers from New York

1. You are absitively Corregedor on this...
Their methodology is to turn it around and then AMPLIFY it against us. and it will work, because we're too g-ddamed stupid to know how to handle that absurd illogic.

4. They will hold the line on that then QUICKLY turn to ... Gun control ...
They need to hold fort initially, but they will quickly go on the offense by grabbing some statement by someone somewhere about gun control and get everyone in line by saying the dems are going to use this as a "Brady Bill" type opportunity to enact more stringent gun control ...

By the end of the week, Chuck Todd will be asking D pols if they think it is fair for democrats to use this event for political advantage ...

8. And, like Columbine...
The NRA will probably hold a friggin' rally in Tucson shortly. This is a consequence of free, unregistered concealed carry, IMO.

5. That's their story and they're sticking to it.
Dug in their heels, ready to turn a blind eye and fight for a lie. Why are we surprised?

7. My prediction is that on Monday, Rush will be blustering defensively
that the Right had nothing to do with this at all. And he'll then rachet up the rhetoric some more.

I am still awestruck about what happened yesterday in my state.

12. Let's be realistic
The right-wing hate-mongers like Beck, O'Reilly, Palin and Bachmann are NEVER going to accept even 0.1% of the responsibility for what happened in Tucson on Saturday.

BUT, in the aftermath of this tragedy, we all have a responsibility to keep a close watch on political rhetoric and media commentary and call out those who use language that could incite a mentally unstable individual to commit an act of violence.

So my view is "Yes we can make them tone down their rhetoric" - hopefully thru until the 2012 elections - but let's not expect any admissions of guilt from the hate-mongers.

14. As a realist...
I'm just hoping it'll be the abrupt end of the political careers of some of those people. It seems likely that both Sarah Palin and Chuck Todd are completely finished because of this...it won't happen immediately because their respective backers don't want the attention it will garner to take them to the woodshed but expect both to disappear from the political spotlight in the coming months. They've been damaged beyond viability.

22. I see things slightly different
than you. Sarah Palin removed her "Target Map" within 3 hours of the shooting. That appears to me to be a big fat admission of guilt on her part. I can think of no other reason for her to do it.

In fact it gives me hope. If we can get enough people to point fingers and say "shame, shame on you" at right wingers, radical Right wing politicians and the big mouth slobbering media whores every time they ratchet up the violent rhetoric - I believe that it can make a difference.

We need a slogan to quote each time it happens.....Remember Remember the Tucson Massacre on January the Eighth.

15. Here's a reply you can give him...
"No, the truck left the dock years ago, starting with hate radio, Fox "News", Sarah Palin, & the tea baggers. And, yes, a mentally unstable person who listened to Limbaugh on the radio did target a Democrat. You may not be paying attention to this story or you're listening to Fox's damage control, but it was a hate crime; the sheriff in Arizona spoke at the news conference about the hate rhetoric that has changed this country for the worse. We need to face the problem, not deny there is one. But thanks for the prayers."

16. I think what's happening now is the reason why the Sheriff was so outspoken about the hate rhetoric
earlier. He knows very well how this system works and knows how this will be spun by M$M.

24. You are not communicating with people that have a rational thought process.
These are the foot-soldiers of the right, those not too bright that have been told their poor lot in life is not their own fault, but caused by the 'other'; blacks, gays, illegal aliens, Democrats...anything but telling their followers that the cult of personal responsibility and their own lack of employing it is the real reason their lives are so pitiful.

It is the very same tactic used against the Jews in Nazi Germany; the entire country saw them as scapegoats after twenty years of propaganda and hate speech.

The same type of rhetoric that the Right is currently using against people just like you and me.
