Those tax cuts could have been renewed every single day after they were passed. There is not one reason that anyone had to focus on that at that moment, right before the deadline. I know, I read the law, and that's how it is written.

What you say is true, but irrelevant.

The bill was filibustered in the Senate and we didn't have the votes to break the filibuster.
It was all or nothing.

We certainly would not have done any better waiting until the Republicans took over the House!
Their bills all cut taxes for the wealthy even further.
