Former Kingsport Police officer faces charges after child pornography website found
A former Kingsport Police Officer is one of 72 who now face charges for their alleged participation in a child pornography website.
According to WCYB in the Tri-Cities, Richard Chandler was indicted by a federal grand jury for charges of having material containing child pornography, sexual exploitation of children, engaging in a child exploitation enterprise and conspiracy to advertise the distribution and distribution of child pornography.
The Kingsport Police Chief released a statement about the situation which said:
"The allegations in question are deeply troubling and especially repugnant," Police Chief Gale Osborne said Wednesday. "But our Department acted quickly when contacted by Federal authorities, and continue to offer all possible assistance. Furthermore, the officer in question resigned upon being presented with the allegations. He was first hired by our Police Department about two years ago, as an applicant who was already a Tennessee Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified officer working for another area department. Pre-employment inquiries found the former officer to have strong recommendations from his former employer and many others."
