A Colorado man is scheduled for his first court appearance Monday afternoon on charges of threatening to attack the staff of Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet.
John Troy Davis, 44, was arrested Friday after allegedly threatening the senator's staff in repeated phone calls over several weeks as he sought help obtaining Social Security benefits. During one such conversation, on Thursday, he allegedly said he "may go to terrorism" and told a staffer that he would "set fire to the perimeter" of Sen. Bennet's office, according to an affidavit filed by Jonathan Grusing, special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
During another call, Mr. Davis allegedly told a staff member: "I'm just going to come down there and shoot you all," according to the FBI.
Mr. Davis was arrested a day before a gunman in Arizona gravely wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, injured 13 more, and killed six people in line to meet the congresswoman at a public event in Tucson.
