2. Snark? For hurricane info
in a area where this is not a common occurrence? Shit, I must be staying away mostly for good reason. Seriously? My son just talked to a friend of his who lived downstairs from him in NYC who did not even know something was coming (musician, busy working odd hours and sleeping during the day- in fact the guy just called while I started this post). There are too many people who ignore this stuff to not try to increase awareness. Whoever snarks at you is too self important to worry about others or just does not care and would rather be a jerk than ignore the threads they don't care about. Whatever.

6. LOL just looked at your previous posts.
Some people just don't get it. Anyone who has ever worked in the medical field or in preparedness gets it (one would hope anyway).

We are doing well here in Kansas where the temps have finally moderated to a more normal degree. Big storms last week, blew a lot and caused some damage but that is pretty standard here.

I hope all is well with you. I am an avid weather follower and when there are storms heading our way I watch them constantly. If one is to stay safe in an area under a watch it is stupid not to and you never know who might really need the info. Thank you for it, even though here in Kansas we are just thankful it is not a hundred and elevenseventy million degrees anymore.

4. Basically

If you are living in a warning zone, brace yourself or get out! If you are in a watch zone keep a close eye on news updates and be prepared.

5. This is starting to look like worst case scenario for NYC
Category 3 or 4 hurricane hitting a major city, especially one that has never in recent history had to deal with this kind of disaster.

I hope the word gets out to all the people who will be in danger. And I hope they have the sense and resources to protect themselves.

11. In my opinion
it will probably be a cat 1/cat 2 by the time it hits NYC. I really, really hope its NOT a cat 3 or 4 on its way to NYC.....

13. What is worrisome is that every update puts it more off coast until NYC
Which will allow Irene to stay strong.

I hope it DOES hit the Outer Banks and grazes New Jersey. Then it should lose strength and not do as much damage. But the current computer models don't look good:

Yesterday they were much more over land from NC on.

This one, it doesn't matter where it actually hits - there will be a LOT of damage.

19. Since when? The first computer models I saw showed it
Coming straight up the middle of Florida. That would have been of concern since that would have taken Irene directly over my aged parents home.

Since then, every set of the spaghetti models I've seen has been slightly more to the east, especially as they have begun to narrow the possibilities.

By the time it gets that far, there won't be much left of it.

18. Category 1 or 2 probably more likely, I think
3, 4 5 I think I've generally seen when the storm is completely over water (and hot 29 to 30 C, at that).

The path of this storm and the location of NYC means that the storm either misses NYC or has half or more of its wind over land (New Jersey). So category 3 or more, in my amateur opinion, is really not a reasonable possibility.

Not saying a category 1 or 2 will be a picnic, just trying to keep things realistic here.

7. Snarking at a 6.0 that killed ZERO people: cool after the fact
Snarking at a massive hurricane that could kill thousands: cool next week provided there are no deaths. :(

10. I had a problem with that snark too
it is DU.

And buildings that would survive fine otherwise, might have gotten damage from that.

One, two punch... not fun... there should be zero snark.

As to hurricane related deaths, we had the first one today... eight people got hurt and one killed in florida after getting into the water. Goes with out saying, not a weekend for surfing/
