Judge tosses suits filed by Ground Zero workers who died after filing claimsBy BRUCE GOLDING
A judge has dismissed eight of 13 suits filed by sickened Ground Zero workers who died before the city could offer them a settlement deal.
The survivors of four of the Sept. 11 responders indicated "that they do not plan to incur the expense and bother of having an administrator or executor appointed" to handle their cases, Manhattan federal Judge Alvin Hellerstein wrote.
In the four other suits, "the decedents' next of kin have failed or refused to communicate" with their late relatives' lawyers or a court-appointed "special counsel" assigned to track them down, Hellerstein said.
The judge ordered survivors in the remaining five cases to name an administrator or executor of their late relative' estates or face dismissal of those suits as well.
