Dear Ms. Palin,
It's a clear, sunny day today in California. I wish I could enjoy it, but I'm feeling a little down about the open letter I addressed to you the other day on Democratic Underground.
You might remember that in that letter, I offered you a chance to redeem yourself, to prove to the world you're not the woman your critics claim you are.
Today, I realize I was wrong in doing so, because you've done what most people expected you to do...push all of that "hopey changey" talk aside to re-assert your position of the Mama Grizzly to end all Mama Grizzlies.
You had to do it. What choice did you have? Once the headlines settle down from this past weekend's tragedy in Arizona, you have a
lucrative business growing political career to manage. You can't be distracted by people holding you accountable for your actions, especially if they don't agree with you. President Bush had the right idea...he was "The Decider" and he didn't allow others to discuss issues with him, let alone disagree with him. His public appearances were closely guarded and you had to show proof of your allegiance before you could be admitted. But why am I telling you all of this...you're well on your way to establishing these policies yourself. No wonder why so many people think you should be president...even President Bush quit before his second term was completed. Of course, that was because he was elected President, but no one is holding that against him, and I wish people would stop holding the fact that you quit half way through your term as Governor of Alaska to become a Fox News on-air personality, because Fox is huge! Every time I go for an oil change it's on the TV in the waiting room. You made the right decision, and I'm sure many in Alaska think it was the right decision too.
But that's not what I wanted to talk to you about today. I watched your video this morning and read the transcript and like many of my liberal friends had to refresh my memory regarding the definition of "blood libel."
So I looked it up on Wikipedia. There's all kinds of great information on Wikipedia, including information about you, so maybe you wouldn't want to go there. Anyway, they offer the following:
Blood libel (also blood accusation) refers to a false accusation or claim that religious minorities, in European contexts almost always Jews, murder children to use their blood in certain aspects of their religious rituals and holidays. Historically, these claims have–alongside those of well poisoning and host desecration–been a major theme in European persecution of Jews.
The libels typically allege that Jews require human blood for the baking of matzos for Passover. The accusations often assert that the blood of Christian children is especially coveted, and historically blood libel claims have often been made to account for otherwise unexplained deaths of children. In some cases, the alleged victim of human sacrifice has become venerated as
a martyr, a holy figure around whom a martyr cult might arise. A few of these have been even canonized as
saints, like Gavriil Belostoksky.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_libelI have to admit, Ms. Palin, that I'm even more confused after reading this. I think it means that since the lamestream media reported on the fact that you posted a map of the United States on your Website with crosshairs over Rep. Giffords' district and that made you responsible for contributing to the anger and hate and violent rhetoric that has become our normal way of living in 2011 that you, Ms. Palin, are a martyr, or a holy figure, or a saint?
Did I get that right? Gee, I hope so. I'm confused about the saint part, though. Doesn't the Pope have to vote on that first?
Anyway...Rep. Giffords once spoke out about that crosshairs thingy, saying ""We're on Sarah Palin's targeted list, but the thing is, the way she has it depicted, it has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that they have to realize that there are consequences to that action."
I know, I know...can you believe the NERVE of this woman? But it's TRUE! She SAID those terrible things about you. Here, watch the clip for yourself (and please don't get upset by her smug, self-righteous, know-it-all behavior):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7046bo92a4Just like you said, this video is FILLED with "shrill cries of imagined insults!" I'm looking forward to your giving this Giffords person a piece of your mind. You have
books to sell a country to heal, and this kind of cruel rhetoric is truly counter-productive.
I hope you will film another video soon, and that you will address Ms. Giffords personally in your message. Please wear those nice glasses again. I can look right into your eyes and see your soul. At least I think that's your soul I'm seeing. Oh well, that's not important...lights, camera, action:

...and puh-LEEZE make sure that nice flag is in the shot again like it was before, because that was my favorite part. Well,
you were my favorite part (of COURSE!), but you know what I mean.
This is about America.
And Americans.
REAL Americans, like you and me.
Maybe after listening to your message, Ms. Giffords will do the honorable thing and offer you a public apology. Blood libel is wrong, and now that I know what it is (thank you so much for that) I also know that you are an innocent victim...and that simply cannot stand.
Go Sarah! We love you.
Best regards,
Mike
