Roger Clemens to face retrial

WASHINGTON -- Pitching great Roger Clemens will face retrial on perjury charges after a federal judge ruled Friday prosecutors mistakenly introduced previously banned evidence that provoked a halt to the proceedings two days into the July trial.

U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton rejected defense arguments that prosecutors purposely threw the case because they were unhappy with its early course, including the make-up of the jury panel.

"While I am very troubled that we find ourselves in this posture,'' Walton said, "the current state of the law would not justify'' barring a retrial.

The judge set a new trial date of April 17.
