K-Y To Air Its First Commercial Featuring Lesbian Couple
If K-Y Brand ads have sought to communicate anything to us over the years, it's that a good bottle of lube is the key to a successful relationship. And in a few days, the company will explicitly extend that message to a particular demographic.

On September 5th, K-Y -- which promises to make that "big moment even bigger" -- will air its first ever ad campaign to feature a lesbian couple on national television.

In the ad, partners Alex and Emma explain that what's kept them together through the years has been good communication ... and K-Y INTENSE, Emma interjects. (Because a couple in possession of good lube must be in relationship bliss.) Cue the fireworks (literally) followed by a shot of Alex and Emma collapsed in a bed.

As blogger Pam Spaulding wrote, "fundies, bigots and closet cases that will need a fainting couch" after the ad airs, but that hasn't stopped K-Y from in the past.

The brand won a 2010 GLAAD Media Award for Advertising for its print campaign: "America's Top Couple" (featuring the ever-lovable Geoffrey and Rusty), is a regular presence sponsor pride events and sponsored the 2010 and 2011 Dinah Shore Weekend, which claims to be the "largest lesbian event in the world." (K-Y even provided the product used in Dinah Shore's 2008 lube wrestling event).

I apologize if this has been posted, but I've been out of the loop this week.

1. I am not a fundie or a bigot,
but I did find this ad a bit over the top.

4. Do you find their other ads over the top?
Because as far as I can tell, it is exactly like their other ads except that a hetero couple is not used.

32. Why?
Because it's a lesbian couple?

:eyes:

Do you find the ads with the straight couples over the top?

3. Lavender fireworks? Interesting touch
Cute ad. And before the class clowns ask why Alex and Emma need it, those who tell don't know, and those who know won't tell.

5. I may be an old fuddy duddy but
I don't appreciate any K-Y ads, or Trojan ads for that matter. The fact that there is one featuring lesbians makes no difference to me.
Just sayin'.

8. You might be an old fuddy duddy if you're still watching the ads at all.
I mean, really. Most cable plans include a DVR nowadays.

7. People are WAY too fucking uptight over sex. Still.
I mean, come ON people, it's just sex.

Meanwhile, 8 year olds are encouraged to brandish giant fucking firearms at gun shows all over America, and that's "wholesome".

How did firearms become part of this discussion, anyway? It's Alex. And Emma. Come on.

10. I'm not anti-firearm, but I think the calibration is way out of whack.
i.e. the outrage that sex between consenting adults generates whereas implements of death and violence are just peachy.

15. I love the ads & can't wait to see...
The guys get their KY ad as well...Americans are completely way to up tight about sex. We can advertise violent video games, guns, alcohol & other things that KILL but something as natural as sex is TABOO!!!

SILLY!

17. Is this going to be aired on network/cable TV?
The same places that the heterosexual version is aired?

If so, the reaction will be interesting. I expect lots of righteous indignation and prophesies of social collapse from prominent fundies, accompanied (I hope) by a calm non-reaction from the general public.

37. and when they do one with two men the fundies will flip all over again

it was a cute commercial though

the final line "good purchase" made me laugh

I'm not sure how that product helped them stay together for all those years if it had just been purchased and not even used yet, but who is going to dissect the dialog in a commercial with two hot women in bed together sharing a "big moment"? (Well, besides me that is.)

I'm going with the total honesty thing.
