A BJ gave us GWB
And a lack of Hope & Change could give us President Perry.

Fasten seat belts. Mix equal parts POTUS and JESUS.

2. Well, I would give more "credit" to a stolen election, corrupt Supreme Court.
Nonetheless, I share your concerns.... Very much so...

3. Common thread:
Both Clinton and Obama underestimated the lengths and the depths that the republican/rightwing machine would go to destroy them personally and their administrations.

Clinton blithely assumed that since he handily won re-election against Bob Dole in a comparatively sane and civilized campaign by the latter, he could drop his guard (if it ever was up to begin with).

Obama thought that being reasonable and academic could appeal the rational side of business and the republican brand. He never imagined the desire of nihilism that he's encountered. Plus how much blowback do you think he encountered as a community organizer? Metaphorically he was faced with a tsunami/tidal wave when the ocean was relatively calm when he took office.

5. Not since LBJ
Have the Democrats had a leader who understood the Republican greed for power. He was the last one who wasn't afraid to get down and wrestle with the pig in his own sty -- and beat him.

9. That's actually pretty astute, imho, except that Obama had the
example of the Clinton years from which to learn and did Mr. Harvard Law Review learn anything? Um, not so much.

4. Um, no one held a gun to Gore's head and forced him to
concede. Gore could have and, in retrospect should have, refused to abide by the Supreme Court's decision. That would have forced the Clinton Administration Department of Justice to intervene to make sure all the ballots were counted.

6. I can see how you'd take that position but I couldn't disagree more.
Remember, back in 2000 things were normal. It wasn't the crazy train. I think Gore stuck it out as long as he absolutely could but he couldn't have ridden the issue any longer.

I think we've been on the crazy train so long we sometimes forget that there was a time before the cars pulled out of the station.

8. The idea that any politician would concede before all the votes
are counted should be anathema to anyone who adheres to the policy of "one man, one vote".

Consider if Gore had not conceded and had instead begun his own transition team. You would have had a full-blown Constitutional crisis, one that only the Executive and Legislative branches could have resolved. Given that Bill Clinton was the Commander in Chief of the U.S. armed forces at the time, the 102 Airborne could have been deployed to contested counties in Florida to ensure that all ballots were counted.

Look, I think Gore is a decent man. But a decent man capitulated to the American version of fascism lite. And we will be paying for that capitulation for many years to come.

19. A constitutional crisis would've required emmense courage.
Which I do not believe Al Gore possessed (believe me I begged the TV screen for him to do it during his concession speech).

22. "A BJ gave us GWB" - that's what you get for sexual prudery
I think of this every time a Dem is attacked for their personal life.

If America prefers leaders wbo torture animals, and people, over leaders who like human pleasures, then they get what they deserve.

He got torn up by the media, then by voter fraud, with an assist from a substantial segment from the leftwing hyping up Gore's negatives while downplaying Bush's.

I was young then, and bought into a lot of it, and after eight years of Bush I will never make that mistake again. Watching the left trying to do a replay Bush Vs. Gore is infuriating.
