Anyone notice what you hear union leaders on TV actually say about President Obama ...
... differs remarkably with how the media quotes these same union leaders in print?

Amazing isn't it? Its like the media is saying to us who you going to believe, us or your lying eyes?

Wonder why that is?

1. I know what the President of the Firemens' Union has said
about the way Unions are being treated right now. He said that they will 'no longer be told we have nowhere else to go'. And that has been echoed by many of the other Unions, including the Teachers' Union.

18. I am invested in facing reality.
It's not that hard to figure out so not sure why you are so puzzled.

I hope that clarifies things for you.

Ignoring reality lost us the House in 2010. Even with the Congressional Leadership trying to warn the WH that they were not helping Democrats get reelected, the warnings were ignored. A repeat of those tactics will produce a Republican takeover of this country, and I don't know about you, but for me and many other Democrats, that is simply unacceptable.

Ignoring the dissatisfaction of teachers, firemen and other working Americans and pretending everything is just fine, because 'they have nowhere else to go' is a LOSING STRATEGY for Democrats. I repeated the words of the President of the Firemen's Union to illustrate that fact. If you are still puzzled about what I am trying to 'prove', I hope you get it now.

I just went to our retired luncheon and talk came around to how small local depts are laying off people. Most of these towns are all Republican controlled.....one guy comment on the votes, my reply was, now people actually know who stands in their corners, not the ones (GOP) you would think...the reply was yes a lot of eyes are opening. A lot of union played into the lips service rah rah...they are learning now.

Unions just don't want to toss their money down rat holes.

9. Rove is telling the Unions to say what they have said?
If you can prove that the Unions have not stated they will consider withholding their money from Democrats, then do so. But to make the ridiculous claim that by facing those facts, Rove is responsible, doesn't help anyone.

I'm sure Unions will not be voting for Republicans, that would be suicidal, but the fact remains that the Teachers Union, the Firemen's Union and the AFL-CIO have all let it be known they are very unhappy with Democrats also.

That can change if Democrats do something about it. But it will not change by ignoring the problems.

23. They are trying to remove politicians who have declaired war on the Unions
And there is nothing at all odd about that. Spending money on defeating political pushes for "Right to Work" laws is a way to increase membership. It is legitimate use of Union funds and in fact very good use of union funds.

17. This
Labor Day struggle for unions and Obama

Labor Day marks a rough year for President Obama and the labor union movement that had high hopes for him. Unemployment remains high, and unions are under fire from political conservatives.

..."Obama campaigned big, but he's governing small," Amalgamated Transit Union president Larry Hanley complained to the Associated Press...

...At a recent Monitor-hosted breakfast, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka indicated the difficulties in the labor movement’s relationship with President Obama.

If Obama’s jobs speech this Thursday does not “propose bold solutions on the jobs crisis,” and consists of “nibbling around the edge” of the issue, Trumka said, “history will judge him and I think working people will judge him...”

..."The pendulum has swung a long way," Ross Eisenbrey, a vice president of the liberal Economic Policy Institute, told the AP. "In the next year, I think all unions can really hope for is to keep more bad things from happening and to get as much of a jobs program enacted as possible..."

21. Don, what's happened to you?
When I lurked here for years before ever posting you were great. Now you seem to be changed in some reactionary kind of way that is hard to describe, much less figure out.

Your post here baffles me, as I tried to select some news source that would not raise the ire of those folks that have taken it that any critique of the president is foul, and have proceeded to condemn every source for any such writings. Huffpost, FDL, Krugman, etc., all have been smeared for daring to voice any opposition to obviously contrary decisions from what was promised AND ANTICIPATED. So, obviously from your post I chose yet another news source that has been condemned and here I was trying to do just the opposite. Is CSM now a reactionary right wing front source like all the rest? Who knew? I actually had seen one of your allies in this Pro-Obama/Anti-Obama name-calling fest that has blossomed on the board, use the CSM as the end all for one such argument. I don't read the fucking thing on a regular basis, so what do I know. I use the Madison news sit, Al Jazeera, GetSmartNews, GuardianUK, and the Google News that pops up automatically when I open my browser. Care to explain what sin now CSM has commited that I don't know about. Are they retarded?

Christ on a trailer hitch, Don, these were my other choices for essentially the same flavor article I had to chose from when I simply googled "Obama unions."

30. They criticized Obama. It doesn't matter who the source is--
Edited on Mon Sep-05-11 07:54 PM by Marr
the loyal fans will say that particular source has some sort of anti-Obama agenda, and post some stupid little factoid that "proves" it. Doesn't matter if it's the Nation or the Wall Street Journal or the TV Guide. It's EXACTLY the same thing we all used to laugh at Bushies for doing, as they circled their wagons into an ever-shrinking circle.

But you just go right ahead and keep tightening that circle. Eventually you're going to end up like the average Dittohead: inoculated against all but one or two "legitimate" news source that happily feed you the things you want to hear.

I was reading your responses in this thread and I thought, "Wha?'. I remember you from back in the day, and I was wondering what's happened. And what's up about the CS Monitor? Seems like there's an ever shrinking list of media sources or individuals who are acceptable here anymore. I guess it's limited to never, ever, ever, criticizing Obama.
