It's Labor Day, why is nothing pertaining to Labor on the TV?

I found one program, on PBS.

A look at the Triangle Shirtwaist fire in 1911.

Otherwise, nothing about labor strife, or how workers' rights are being run over by republicans.

Their goal is to beat labor down, not to praise it.
Not to give labor credit for advances in the workplace such as health care, vacations, overtime, pensions and collective bargaining.
they think that takes away profits from them.
Not realizing that it also gives them customers to buy their goods and services.
And now they don't care about you anymore, their off to China, that's where the big market is.

4. "Democratize the media" is a great term

Citizen groups got a % of pages to control in a paper, in proportion to their size. Parallel idea in TV etc.
We got 53% last election. Imagine we run 53% of TV. Nice.

16. Yeah, but it's not shocking

There is a coordinated, concerted effort in the last few years to demonize anything and everything to do with labour. The large corps that own the media are no doubt in on it.

Here in Canada, they did show on the news the union parades around the country and how many are being dedicated to Jack Layton, the NDP leader that recently died who was a champion for unions. That's about all I saw today. On the bright side, I realized I get RTTV on my cable, LOL. Just started getting Aljazeera too which has really interesting, in depth, programming. But, no union stuff.

As for learning it in school - we did in Canada 20 yrs ago or so, during our whole 'industrial revolution' unit in social studies. We had an awesome teacher though that I now realize was quite progressive :) That type of instruction is definitely missing in American schools. It's no wonder most people have NO idea what unions have accomplished, nor do they understand that it can all be 'disappeared' in an instant. Heck, it's started already.

17. Labor shows on TV

There was a mock trial on CSPAN by, I think it was Freedom Works, a right wing organization.It was a total slap in the face to government union workers and it is a disgrace that this trash was aired on labor day.

20. well, at least NPR had a show on some folks who had very reduced circumstances

due to the recession. People who were once bank professionals now working for $15 and hour. No benefits, no vacation, no sick leave. And they are treated like disposable people...

21. NPR Today....

Sept. 5 is Labor Day in name only, E.J. Dionne argues in The Washington Post. It's just a matter of time, he says, before Labor Day falls off the calendar. But, while it remains "it should shame us about our cool indifference to the heroism of those who go to work every day."
He was interviewed on his op ed this afternoon on "Talk of the Nation." He said maybe there'll be a time when we call it "Capital Day."
Good pro-worker call-ins, but still very said, really.

22. I remember a few years ago some nitwits on TV were giggling

on Labor Day about how it had no meaning anymore. They were opening gleeful that workers were no longer respected or honored, and happy that people don't know anything about the history of labor. It was one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen on TV. Not that it surprised me, but the fact that they didn't feel it necessary to sugarcoat it was an eye opener. And this was at least five years ago.
