67 Shot in NYC Labor Day Weekend Gunfire

Three people were killed and two police officers were wounded in a shooting a few blocks from the annual West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn, capping a violent holiday weekend in which nearly 70 people were injured by gunfire.

Updated statistics obtained by NBC New York on Tuesday show that at least 67 people were shot between 12 a.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Monday. That includes nine on Friday, 10 on Saturday, 33 on Sunday and 15 on Monday.

Preliminary numbers indicate as many as 10 were killed.

In the police-involved shooting Monday near the parade in Brooklyn, bullet fragments hit one police officer in the left arm and chest. He was hospitalized but was expected to survive. Another officer was grazed by a bullet.

3. Shameful - POL's Tout USA "Greatness"
I'm not seeing what's so great about the amount of gun violence that occurs ever day, year after year.

GOP raffles off Glocks in Gabby Gifford's district, with a vicious, murderous weapon and the GOP applaud.... by doing it again.

This older gal I used to talk with has a grandson who was teaching English in Japan. He was paid well, had good health care, and loved it there. This woman was originally from Ukraine and escaped in WWII. Of course she think America is awesome, and couldn't understand why her grandson would even want to be out of America, the greatest country in the whole wide world. America is so much better than Japan, she'd yammer on. So I said, he's safer there than here. You don't have to worry about him getting shot with a machine gun.

She stopped calling.

6. Gun violence is at historic lows and steadily declining
it really is a perception problem - you have never been safer and next year you will be even safer.

4. doesn't get much better after the holidays either
A man with a rifle shot an entire group of five uniformed National Guard members eating breakfast at a Nevada IHOP on Tuesday, killing two of them and another person in a hail of gunfire, authorities and witnesses said.
