Our daily WTF
Republicans demand that Obama apologize for something Hoffa said, and we remonstrate that Obama is not responsible for something somebody else said. Then some of us get all pissy with Obama because somebody other than Obama said Hoffa speaks for himself. It seems that angry misattribution isn't confined to Republicans.

IOKIYAROADPODU, huh?

6. The man who speaks for the President misidentified Hoffa
as being AFL-CIO when he is the head of the Teamster's Union, which is a fairly large gaff for a man paid to speak for the President. Other than that what he said was fine. Other than the gaff which many will take as a back handed insult. When paid to communicate, your communications should not have too many 'fine other thans' in a given week.

have nothing better to do for the future of ourselves and of our children.

Some still think that Slavery ended, women were given the right to vote,
and the Civil Rights happened by folks sitting around being pessimistic and
cynical while waiting for one person to get her done, meanwhile they jeered
and threw rocks at same person.

This is what they consider to be "activism"..... :eyes:

But then, it's similar folks that would give over 100 of recs to a Huffpo article
that claimed that Pres. Obama had done nothing for Unions, and the unions were
therefore turning from him....so, you know.....

NLRB issues three decisions, two of which overturn Bush-era decisions
The NLRB has issued three more rulings following last week's announcement that employers would be required to notify workers of their rights under the National Labor Relations Act. Two of Tuesday's rulings overturn Bush-era NLRB rulings, both having to do with union decertifications.

Labor Board Eases Path To Unions For Health Care Workers
08/30/11
WASHINGTON -- With the departure of the chairwoman of the National Labor Relations Board this past weekend, the board has been issuing a slew of last-minute rulings destined to please labor groups while irritating business interests and anti-union Republicans. Among the latest: a ruling made public on Tuesday that overturns a Bush-era decision and will likely make it easier for health care workers to unionize.

In the case, known as Specialty Healthcare, the board ruled that a group of nursing assistants at a facility in Mobile, Ala., could form their own bargaining unit without other types of nursing home staff, from maintenance workers to dietary aides. It's a decision that could greatly simplify the unionization process and, as HuffPost has previously reported, could have a huge impact on the growing and largely non-unionized nursing home industry.

NLRB Proposes Removing ‘Unnecessary Barriers’ to Union Votes
06/22/11
Companies would have less time and opportunity to block unions under a proposed U.S. rule that would speed voting in labor elections.

The proposed rule issued today by the National Labor Relations Board, an agency that investigates unfair labor practices, would bring changes sought by unions, such as faster hearing deadlines and streamlined procedures.

The push for quicker elections is a victory for unions after defeats at the hands of Republican governors seeking to curb public-employee unions. It’s also a sign of the NLRB’s pro- labor bent since President Barack Obama’s appointees have become a majority, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Screeners Under Obama May Give Federal Unions Biggest Vote Win in Years
03/09/11
A collective-bargaining vote by airport security workers that starts today may give federal employee groups their biggest victory in years, even as public workers in some states struggle to keep their union status.

The country’s two largest federal-employee unions are competing to represent the 44,000 screeners who can cast their ballots through April 19. The effort, which Senate Republicans failed to stop last month, may raise Transportation Security Administration costs if workers push through changes such as increased staffing.

Obama Gives Unions A Big Victory In Unionizing Air Travel Workers
05/11/10
WASHINGTON (AP) — Labor unions will have an easier time organizing workers at airline and railroad companies after the Obama administration on Monday changed a 76-year-old rule on union elections.

The change is a victory for unions that have struggled to reverse years of decline in membership. And it’s the most significant initiative so far in a string of White House moves intended to help organized labor.

Obama Bypasses Senate, Makes Appointments to NLRB
By Hans Nichols and Holly Rosenkrantz - March 28, 2010 00:00 EDT
The appointment of Craig Becker, a union lawyer who will now serve on the National Labor Relations Board, drew immediate criticism. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce issued a statement denouncing the appointment of Becker, who has represented the AFL-CIO and the Service Employees International Union, while Congress is away.

“The business community should be on red alert for radical changes that could significantly impair the ability of America’s job creators to compete,” said the Chamber’s labor vice president Randel Johnson in yesterday’s statement.

8. Republicans speak with one voice. Be assured if a Republican says
something that damn near all Republicans will agree.
As far as I know every Democrat speaks for themselves.
Republicans can't understand this behavior

News Corp News Conference on "Why The GOP Must Win White America For Victory in 2012"
MediaMatters reports:

Peter Brimelow, a columnist for News Corp.'s MarketWatch, has been announced as one of three speakers at a press conference discussing "Why the GOP Must Win White America for Victory in 2012."

The press release explains:

On September 9, The National Policy Institute will present a comprehensive, yet simple, strategy for a Republican victory in 2012--Win the White vote. "The Majority Strategy" is based on the GOP expanding its traditional White voting base, as opposed to continuing its failed "outreach" programs to racial minorities.

10. WTF = Win the Future?
I want universal success: I want POTUS Obama be the best POTUS ever and the 21st Century USA be the most enlightened and properous Nation

The WH should have been cool, ignored the media baiting, and not respond after more positive than expected Labor Day speech and event, with props to Jim Hoffa.

Carney made a collossal tone-deaf stupid for the WH.

As an aside: I do not find the POTUS Obama WH and close appointees and advisors particularly pro-labor, whether jobs or Unions as they are neoliberal in act. The weakening of teacher and public employee unions are negative progress.

21. Why would you refer me back to this same thread in a circle?
I never post until I read a thread.

Read or saw in media elsewhere regards to this topic.

Carney was tone deaf on a topic that needed no response much less acknowledgement.

Hoffa expressed strong vote support for POTUS Obama and the Democratic Party. Good for Hoffa and the Teamsters.

There was no threat of violence but rather hyperbolic commitment by a Union leader.

In Tucson the GOP and Tea Party are celebrating the destruction of Rep Giffords by raffling off a Glock.

Fuck them. Hoffa said fuck them. Fuck the GOP and Tea Party.

that they would buy the RW framing that Hoffa's remarks were violent and denounce them.

17. I guess I have three reactions...
1) True, it isn't "Obama" but it *is* his press secretary. So, aren't we supposed to more or less consider the press secretary's statements as representing Obama?

2) If the state of play remains at "Hoffa speaks for himself," I can live with that.

3) I admit I would be even happier if Obama (or his press secretary) would say "we stand behind Hoffa's statements 100%." Extra credit for adding anything resembling: "And the GOP can go fuck themselves"

OK, and 4) I don't really think Obama actually thinks (3). He's not a deeply pro-labor president, if one judges by his staff and his actions. So in that respect, (2) is an honest reaction.

18. Number three doesn't happen in Presidential politics, generally. Your supporters
attack, you say "they speak for themselves"--but you don't denounce or comment further. The attack stands. End of story.
