Angry House Dems Request Pre-Speech Meeting With Obama
Source: TPM

The chairs of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and of the three caucuses of black, Hispanic and Asian members of the House would like a word with President Obama before his Thursday jobs address.

In a Tuesday letter provided by a source, the leaders, who speak for a majority of House Dems, sought to make sure that Obama keeps his eye on the jobs crisis, which has disproportionately hit minority groups.

24. They are.
Doesn't matter how you parse that headline, some of them are plenty pissed off at Obama for backing away from fighting the right on several dozen issues that they are actively engaged in in their own districts.
Maxine said a lot about the 40% unemployment in her district amongst blacks and she wasn't knitting booties for anyone's grandkids when she sounded off about that this weekend on Meet the Press.

31. I watched Waters on local news here in LA and believe she
said (at least on the local news I saw) that the unemployment rate in Watts was 40%. She made no claim at all about the overall black unemployment rate.

N.B. That rate as of the end of August stood at some 16.2%, as calculated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. I don't mean to diminish the severity of the economic crisis for the nation's blacks: the 16.2% national unemployment rate for black Americans is almost twice what it is for the nation as a whole (9.1%).

46. Yes, that's what Waters said about it.
She wasn't talking about the OVERALL BLACK UNEMPLOYMENT RATE -- which is TWICE as high as it is for WHITE PEOPLE!!

She was talking about the BLACKS IN HER DISTRICT, THE ONE THAT SHE REPRESENTS.

Maybe enlarging the words will help, I don't know.

I remember being struck enough by Waters' forthrightness that I posted an OP about it here on DU:

I live next door in the district Dianne Watson used to represent and Karen Bass now represents (the 33rd). Bass is simply awesome - could not ask for a better Rep.

Nadler Blasts Republican Deficit Hysteria, Will Introduce Legislation to Repeal Debt Ceiling

Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) denounced the current GOP-driven deficit obsession and its preclusion of government action to lift the nation out of the ongoing recession. He proposed legislation, which he will introduce soon, to repeal the federal debt ceiling.

41. Get a clue, House Dems! "Obama, Romney jobs plans reveal deep philosophical divide"
Edited on Tue Sep-06-11 11:40 PM by ClarkUSA
Source: CBS News

"The Obama administration has severely restricted domestic energy production," wrote Romney. The Chamber agrees, saying that "almost 190,000 new jobs could be created by 2013 if permitting in the Gulf of Mexico for offshore development returned to pre-moratorium levels."

The administration has also focused on domestic energy production, but has focused its efforts on alternative sources of energy. While the administration has been slow to re-open drilling permits it issued before the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, it has been fervent in pushing for green energy, pushing for the expansion of solar and wind energy technology in the U.S., what they call the energy of the 21st century.

* * *

Where the big differences lie are in the role of government and regulation.

* * *

Additionally, the Romney campaign said in a fact sheet put out today that the candidate would go even further. "Mitt Romney will act swiftly to tear down the vast edifice of regulations the Obama Administration has imposed on the economy," it said.

but on this, I think you should step back and actually read what the caucuses are saying.

Here's the PDF - http://talkingpointsmemo.com/documents/2011/09/progressives-minority-members-push-obama-to-demand-real-jobs-plan.php?page=1

These are legitimate issues that they are raising. Their letter is respectful and actually, quite polite! I unrec'd this OP because the idiot who wrote this editorialized the word "angry." We've all seen the news lately. If these folks are angry at anyone it's the Tea Party and the republicans, not the president. Contrary to the moist dreams of far too many on DU, the CBC and even the progressive caucus are not on a tear to take down this president. They are not overly critical.

The vast majority of the time, members of the CBC state unequivocally that they have this president's back. Even when they are critical of him, their comments are always tempered with much respect as well as an acknowledgement of what this president has done and what he is up against. They're not the enemy here.

<< The vast majority of the time, members of the CBC state unequivocally that they have this president's back. Even when they are critical of him, their comments are always tempered with much respect as well as an acknowledgement of what this president has done and what he is up against. >>

John Conyers being the exception, I take it? Dennis Kucinich being the other exception.

<< These are legitimate issues that they are raising. >>

I do stand by my view that House Dems have been largely useless in getting legislation passed, so their "concerns" about President Obama's plan seem to be a bit of self-serving media grandstanding. Why is a letter even necessary? Do they not think Pres. Obama is quite cognizant of the facts re: minority unemployment already?

You can PM me if you want... I am going to :boring: now. Nice to hear from you!

And even much of his feistiest criticism acknowledged the president's successes and obstacles. None of the CBC has pulled a Cornel... yet. And it's probably because they know that the president is far more popular amongst their constituents than they are.

84. I didn't know that! Thanks for the heads up
Though I'm not the slightest bit surprised. The man is not stupid.

Like I said, there is a large contingent in GD that pray every night that the CBC turns on Obama the way that Cornel and Tavis have. It ain't gonna happen.

Some people can't help themselves and tend to act hysterically.

75. I forget the man's name
He was on Rachel's show last night. He said Obama's jobs outlook didn't have a big enough bang. So maybe they are going to help bring a bang into it.

78. It is a simple story.
Edited on Wed Sep-07-11 04:26 PM by Jakes Progress
The OP is a story about some concerned lawmakers.

But Obama has some out really tarring him by calling these people names and damning them for doing their jobs. These acolytes are not doing Obama any good. Their posts are damning Obama by trying to link their prejudice and stupidity to the president. I'm sure he would rather embrace Hoffa's words than the crap that is in this tread trying to "defend" the president.

80. "Dem" plus "Angry" in a title is standard MSM propo designed to make Dems look unstable.

Surprised to see a headline like this one celebrated at DU.

Maybe I need to write a guide to the propaganda used by the corporate media.

85. Exactly. It doesn't even have to be well-written propaganda for it to be swallowed whole here
If it can be construed in any was as "Obama BAD," it'll get tons of recs here. The new DU and all.

Surprised to see a headline like this one celebrated at DU.

I don't know why anyone would be surprised by anything here anymore.
