Do you remember the 2008 Democratic primaries?: "Do you reject and denounce, etc.?"

In the drawn out bloodletting between Hillary and Obama in the Spring of 2008, every time a supporter of either one of them said something stupid there would be immediate demands from the media echo chamber that the candidate "reject, denounce and cut off all association" with the offending supporter who had the big mouth.

The ones I remember are Geraldine Ferraro, Samantha Power, Rev. Wright, and a few other lesser known people whose names escape me at the moment. But there was a point there when it seemed like every week featured the media getting their panties in a wad about someone different.
