Texas needs and deserves our help.

We are talking about our fellow American citizens.

Maybe I'm biased because I live in NJ and have an embarrassing governor right now, too.

Maybe I've heard that Austin is actually a great city and I'd like to visit it before it burns down.

Maybe I've forgiven Houston for the one horrid year I had to live there (sorry - really hated it, but that's not every Texan's fault, or even every Houstonian's fault. Mostly it was my 4th grade teacher's fault which is a story for another post.)

Maybe community support just isn't about score keeping and politics.

But seriously, I'm keeping you all (or is it "y'all"?) in my thoughts and I hope you get some rain soon!

So I'm all for helping out.

But first, I want to see Perry beg -- and I mean beg -- Obama for federal aid. Then, I want to see Obama, in a press conference, take a question about aid, indicate it's forthcoming, and then say "I know Eric Cantor and many in the Republican party think that helping the good people of Texas in their hour of need, without preconditions or qualifiers, is wrong. But I can't stand by and be a bean-counter when the lives and property American citizens are at risk; I can't put my ideology ahead of my commitment to my fellow Americans. Maybe that's the difference between me and the Republican leadership."

Won't happen, but a boy can dream.

9. I guess the point I was trying to make was

1) I'm sure there are plenty of Texans who agree with more of my politics than disagree but,
2) it doesn't matter. You don't deny assistance just because you disagree with someone's politics.

Doctors save lives on both sides of the battle field. Lifeguards don't ask to see your voter registration before they throw you a life line. I don't care if 5% of the state is "true blue" or 95% is. It doesn't matter.

I just don't want to play that game.

I know "the other side" does it, but when people have lost their homes, and in some cases even their loved ones, I just don't want to play.

I would never be in favor of not helping Texas or any other state in a situation like this.
Yes I hate their politics but we still have to help them. A good share of Texans are not
right wingers. Another share are kids who cannot vote. That makes up a bunch of people.
So we have to do what's right and help.

The fact that about 45% of eligible Texans vote blue. Others vote Green. Many, many are undocumented and can't vote and others are kids.

The problem was a lack of proper oversight. I'm from CA, and all my family is there. Not a one of them blames the general population in Texas for market manipulation done by a private company back in 2000. They freely admit it was a flawed deregulation process in the state of CA which left the loophole open for Enron to exploit. Enron was greedy and evil, there's no denying that fact. They're as widely hated in Texas as California, though. Actually, I think they may be more hated here than in CA. They destroyed the savings and hopes of retiring comfortably of many a person in this state.

...not only did Enron steal from California residents and businesses by manipulating the ISO to TRIPLE energy bills, but they put some businesses OUT of business, because they couldn't afford the huge energy bills?


I don't blame Texas or Texans for that. I DO blame a certain former oil man and Texas governor who became president and his Halliburton buddy, Dick Cheney...who made sure FERC did NOTHING to help these California businesses, let alone the people of California.

I believe every state and territory in the nation deserves our help when they need it.

The same holds true for other nations, to the extent that we can help them when they need it.
