Perry's executive order to enforce hpv vaccine. The real story.
Edited on Wed Sep-07-11 09:43 PM by Avalux
Perry didn't see it as a public health issue. He wanted to help his friends at Merck make a whole lot of money by MANDATING that 12 year old girls in Texas must get a vaccine for a sexually transmitted disease.

The motives for his action were not to save lives, but to line pockets.

EDIT: Removed a thing I wrote that was probably wrong.

But yes. Perry was lining his pockets. This is the truth.

4. The motive behind any action by a Repuke is to line corporate
pockets - and, of course, his or her own. No surprises here.

They just totally skipped over the shady financial/hiring between Perry's people and the pharm company

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Perry#HPV_vaccine_controversy

HPV vaccine controversyOn February 2, 2007, Perry issued an executive order mandating that Texas girls receive HPV vaccine that protects against some strains of the human papilloma virus, a contributing factor to some forms of cervical cancer.<106> The order provided vaccination free of charge to those who were not covered by insurance,<107> and included an opt-out provision for parents. At the time of the order, Gardasil, a newly approved drug manufactured by Merck, was the only HPV vaccine approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The move made national headlines,<108> and apparent financial connections between Merck and Perry were reported by news outlets, such as a $6,000 campaign contribution and Merck's hiring of former Perry Chief of Staff Mike Toomey to handle its Texas lobbying work and Perry's "current chief of staff's mother-in-law, Texas Republican state Rep. Dianne White Delisi state director for Women in Government".<106><109>

6. What you claim may or may not be true, but all girls should get this vaccine.
Their parents can always opt out (it is not "MANDATED"), but a good parent would want what's best for their daughter's future health.

What I've stated about Perry's relationship with Merck and the shenanigans around the vaccine are true. I lived through it.

9. I'm Sure Ron Paul Knows This As Well .......
he had a chance to expose Perry on this Merck thing and he didn't use it.

11. and big Pharma's corrupt relationship with...
...our nation's politicians--is precisely why these pharmaceutical companies and their products (whether it be
a vaccine or a new drug) cannot be trusted.

When pharmaceutical companies can BUY our elected representatives and then cajole these politicians into
approving their drug, mandating that we use them or simply deregulating the industry--how in the hell can
the public trust this industry?

This is how big Pharma operates.

So any doubts I have about anything they make--is just good common sense.

The entire system is way too corrupt and Perry's Gardisil "mandates" and his relationship with Merck are
a fine example of just how sick the system is.

10. The point of the mandate is to make public funds available for those that want it

What some don't get is that a mandate with an opt out allows those who can't afford it to get it.

And I really don't care if Perry benefited financially, it is stillthe correct decision.

12. I thought it was something even worse. A good way to have
a really large pool of test subjects. They sort of test vaccines etc but the real test is when it is out there in the general public.

13. Cui bono? Always ask.
In the case of R's, it's usually a straight line between financial incentive and usurpation of the law. They're not even devious about it; they commit crimes in plain sight and get a compliant media to ignore them.
