Why did no moderator ask Rick Perry why he thinks S.S. will not be
available for our children & grandchildren, considering that within 30 years or LESS, the baby boomers will have moved on OUT OF THE SYSTEM, & the only "fix" ever needed to keep it solvent is to raise or even ELIMINATE the Payroll Cap on FICA?

We need to make sure this question IS asked at the NEXT Debate!

2. I wonder whether the projections regarding shortfalls in Social Security
and Medicare in 30 years could be due to the fact that the wages on which FICA taxes are imposed -- those $106,000 and less are and have been stagnant for years, while the wages on which FICA taxes are not imposed, those in the higher taxes have risen with inflation.

I am offering another argument for raising the cap.

We need to raise the FICA cap to cover all income up to $300,000 not just income earned from wages because the growth in income is in the higher brackets and a lot of it is the taking of stock options and capital gains awarded to the very, very rich. That is the money that should be supporting Social Security and Medicare.

3. The 1983 "reform," as bad as it was, projected full funding far into the future.
Assuming that the distribution of income would not radically change. The upward shift of income to higher income earners is the basic cause of the projected shortfall. So, yes, raising or eliminating the FICA cap would take care of the problems.

Meanwhile, we're told to panic because SS will not be able to fully fund its benefits A QUARTER CENTURY from now -- lacking such a simple, basic fix.

10. It's a big dose of Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt (FUD) on SS
to get us onto something much more secure like stock funds

6. in '83, they did not foresee the huge gap in income inequality. Yes, we must raise the cap.

4. because the moderators are on a payroll too
it's been obvious for many years now whose side they are on, and it's not the democrats side.

Just wishing for some semblance of neutrality and a smidgen of curiousity at what some of those republicans said last night, would be good enough, but we don't even get a whiff of a sniff of anything like that.

5. Because the media is 100% complicit in this crusade against SS. They also don't understand it.
Do they ask the tough questions? To Democrats, yes, to Republicans, no. They get off scott free making bold faced lies.

7. This is just a different approach to the same end.
First they have to tell people to get used to the idea of no SS.

Then they can give the money to Wall Street.
