This man welcomed their hatred!

We had to struggle with the old enemies of peace--business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering.

They had begun to consider the Government of the United States as a mere appendage to their own affairs. We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob.

Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me--and I welcome their hatred.

I should like to have it said of my first Administration that in it the forces of selfishness and of lust for power met their match. I should like to have it said of my second Administration that in it these forces met their master.

3. And he had the majority
in Congress in large enough numbers to allow him to welcome the hatred and still get things done.

6. That begs the question as to whether FDR's campaigning, empathy, passion and policy

contributed to those large numbers in the Congress, ie; "coattails"?

I believe his actions did and as a result President FDR's policies of change were made all the easier to pass.

15. He had a good sized majority

from the beginning, and it grew over his first two years because he was ABLE to get most, if not all of his policies passed without having to compromise.

5. FDR had no desire to be BFFs with Wall Street thugs.
He took them on and put them on the mat. FDR was a man of principle and action. Compare and contrast with the Current Occupant.

7. If that phrase is being used to cast Obama in an unfavorable light, recall this:
FDR said that at the 1936 DNC, which would work out to the middle of 2012 for Obama. Also, FDR had a hand FULL of high cards. All he lacked was the US Supreme Court. He kept his "Blue Dogs" (Southern Democrats) under full control until 1937 (2013)

middle of 2012?

14. Obama said that elected leaders needed to eat their peas.
He directed that comment at no one else.

But let's hate him for it.

16. It wouldn't surprise me!
And if Obama held the high cards that FDR held then, he'd most likely have said it a lot earlier.

8. He was such a vibrant, unapologetic man. What wonderful pictures.
I can just see him smiling and saying to today's GOP: "keep trying boys, you will not win this fight".

13. And the Mythical FDR is still just as DEAD as the Mythical Reagan is.
Sorry to be so blunt.

But I am getting tired of the GOP PRETENDING that their candidate IS the Mythical Reagan.

And I am just as tired of the Left SCREAMING that Obama is NOT the Mythical FDR.

17. K&R for the Best Democratic President EVER!
"In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all—regardless of station, race, or creed.

Among these are:

*The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;

*The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;

*The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;

*The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;

*The right of every family to a decent home;

*The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;

*The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;

*The right to a good education.

All of these rights spell security. And after this war is won we must be prepared to move forward, in the implementation of these rights, to new goals of human happiness and well-being.

America's own rightful place in the world depends in large part upon how fully these and similar rights have been carried into practice for all our citizens.

For unless there is security here at home there cannot be lasting peace in the world."--- President FDR, 1944

THAT is the "Democratic Party" I joined 45 years ago.
When was the last time you heard someone in the Democratic Party leadership sound like THAT!
:cry:
I MISS that Party.
