Eric Cantor Tips GOP Hand: Passing The Whole Jobs Plan ‘Is Not The Way To Get A Win’

Following tonight’s presidential address to a joint session of Congress, there were reports of encouraging signs that Republicans might actually consider working with President Obama on his American Jobs Act. That hope lasted about as long as a Kajagoogoo retrospective, as Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va) appeared on Fox’s Hannity show to provide a reading between the lines of Speaker John Boehner‘s tepid written statement: Republicans will take the tax cuts, and block the rest.

Those who saw cooperative happy talk in Boehner’s statement about how “the proposals the president outlined tonight merit consideration” can forget about that, as Boehner telegraphed the GOP’s next punch by saying, “We hope he gives serious consideration to our ideas as well.”

For those who missed the meaning, Cantor tells Sean Hannity that he’s happy to pass the parts of the President’s plan that he already likes, but passing the whole plan “is not the way to get a win.”

The important thing is that President Obama stops compromising with the repubbies. When the plan is obstructed or scaled back, he has to dig in his heels and say no. He has to make it very clear to the entire country that the REPUBLICANS are refusing to pass a jobs plan. He needs to make them look like the spoiled rich brats that they are.

15. First salvo in the 2012 election was thrown by the President last nite

agree or disagree with some of his proposals, specifically Medicare, I think the speech last nite gave him great leverage going into next year.

The longer the Republicans hold this up, try to change it, get their own way, the more the President can go to the American public and blame them for this.

The quicker the Republicans can pass it with little or no changes, the President looks stronger and a much better leader who can show that he can work with Congress.

I laugh at the "encouraging signs" this article talks about. Does anyone know what they're talking about? There were "signs" that the GOP would suddenly become an honest broker? Really? Someone post a link to these signs so I can laugh at them.
