The NBCNews Twitter Feed has been hacked by The Script Kiddies
Edited on Fri Sep-09-11 05:09 PM by Ian David
Source: NBCNews

They've been tweeting news of fake terror attacks.

Thought I should put this in LBN for extra visibility, to avoid panic.

8. I absolutely LOVE their name - it makes their point better than the tweets
...and what is their point, you might ask?

Their point is that script kiddies, that is, ignorant uninformed people with no more real knowledge of computer security than a teenager can glean from the Internet in a few months, can hack things like this - and perhaps you should wonder whether more competent people are doing more advanced things that you're not noticing.

Anonymous is trying to be scary - you don't know who they are, or how many, but the name implies they could be anywhere. The Script Kiddies make it perfectly clear that it DOESN'T MATTER. If someone wants something hacked, it will get hacked. This isn't limited to computers, it's pretty much a universal truth of technology. And it's NOT HARD. It only appears hard to people who cultivate a lack of understanding of their world on a consistent basis.

But as far as I'm concerned personally, anything of any sort that reduces the respect that corporate media is held in, is a good thing. Think of it as another form of whistleblowing. Being a whistleblower is almost always against the law, and always against the employment contract you have with your employer. But it's also almost always the right thing to do, irrespective of this.

"The NBC News twitter account was hacked late this afternoon and as a result, false reports of a plane attack on ground zero were sent to @NBCNews followers. We are working with Twitter to correct the situation and sincerely apologize for the scare that could have been caused by such a reckless and irresponsible act."
