Proposed anti-meth bill would require doctor's prescriptions for some cold medications

News 4 - Andrew Del Greco A state senator says it is in the state's best interest to require everyone in Nevada to get a prescription, before being able to buy cold medications such as sudafed. It's all designed to fight the meth epidemic in this state, but some doctors say they don't agree with the idea.

Lawmakers and law officers say methamphetamine ruins more lives and causes more crimes than any drug law agencies have ever seen. And it appears the epidemic is like a runaway train causing massive damage to anything in its path.

"Studies show the social cost of meth to the U.S. is $23 Billion," said State Senator Sheila Leslie.

So at least one lawmaker says it's time to do more to stop it. State Senator Shelia Leslie will introduce a bill in the upcoming legislature that would require doctor's prescriptions for cold medications with psuedo-edephrine.

Why can't I just dig up my old high school chemistry grades and prove once and for all there is no way on this planet I'm making meth?

This is idiotic, more punishment for average citizens while the drugs just flow in from Mexico and the "war on drugs" continues on, busting into the wrong homes and declaring victory every time they dig up a pot plant. This "war on drugs" and our society's schizophrenic attitude concerning drug use and abuse is destroying more lives than anyone will ever count. We all need to grow up and look for real solutions.

But now our tax money will continue to go toward fruitless efforts while I have to beg for, then pay out the wazoo for medication for my persistent allergy symptoms.

it happens to be the only thing that works for me. Now I can only buy at most 48 at a time so it is already a huge inconvenience. And this idiot wants me to have to make a doctors appointment, & pay the doc to write me a prescription for it?!?

3. Incredible. You don't health insurance. You don't have enough money to visit a doctor

only to get a prescription for a concoction that used to be a few dollars over-the-counter. Pretty soon your runny nose has a tab of $75 and up.

Why let the public get away with paying $5 for a box of cold medicine? No, make it prescription only so you have to see a doctor, who will inevitably prescribe the most expensive thing that they have behind the counter. But don't worry, all this extra cash being doled out on your part will be well worth it because it's FOR THE CHILDREN!

(Seriously though, Meth is bad. This just isn't the way to be handling the problem.)

10. It's really annoying. I have allergies and the only thing I can take is Advil Cold and Sinus, sold

behind the pharmacy counter. Everything else makes me woozy. Everytime I have to stand in line, show my id and then sign for it.

Yet I heard that it would take hundreds of these pills to make a teeny bit of meth - and all I am buying is a pkg of 24.

Give me a break.

11. The problem is the 'fear' factor - we spend so much time/worry on the few

that many are made to suffer for it. TSA, etc and so on all use the fear of the few to control the many.
