Just got back from the hospital...
This past Thursday I was getting ready to scramble off to work and got confused, not knowing what day it was nor where I was. This lasted for just a few minutes and I thought nothing of it, like a 'mind fart', proceeding to drive to my place of employment. (I work as a CNA in a nursing home) Upon arriving there I knew that something was wrong for I got the attention of one of the nurses I work with. Apparently I began talking gibberish and she took my blood pressure. It was sky high; 225/115! Not long after, my left side became numb and another nurse was taking my blood sugar because I was cold and clammy. They called an ambulance and I was transported to the hospital, where they did various tests (CT scan, blood work, and a MRI) and worked on getting my blood pressure down. After two days of tests, my doctor ruled out that I had a stroke. Turns out that I had something called a Complex Migraine. I had never heard of such a thing before. When I finally got home, I researched this and found that there was a case where a news reporter had such an episode on live television. Needless to say that this whole adventure, if you want to call it that, scarred the living daylights out of me. I'm home now and missing even more work. I can't return until my general practitioner gives me the okay so all I can do is wait. I'm now on blood pressure meds and have to severely change my diet. The new med makes me tired all the time, but that is supposed to change after a while. What a life! I have insurance through work, but still, I wonder just how much this is going to cost me!

Recovery.

After achieving that, you might want to examine certain pieces of information and with your doctors helps, see if changes can apply.

Vitamin B12 that is injectable and most importantly that is of high enough doses, could help with migraines. The B12 also helps the body release any stored heavy metals and other toxins that might impact you as you age. (Alzheimer's, Parkinson's etc - in my view those diseases come about because of heavy metals and other irritants stored in the body. We get along in our lives without these diseases until we age. It its interesting to note that Michael J Fox was the spokesman for one of the aspartame-laced soda drinks, and he drank that stuff for years before ending up with Parkinson's, at a quite early age.)

2. In Canada.......
Edited on Sun Sep-11-11 03:06 AM by murphyj87
In Canada you wouldn't need insurance and it would not cost you a cent. If you were a Canadian, you would receive the same treatment regardless of age or income, or if you were working or not.

5. Yeah, I wish we had something similar to what you have in Canada.
We don't and that is what I now have to deal with. I'm thankful that i have what insurance I do have. Now I'll get to see how well it works(or not)!

19. All that goes to show -
The difference between living in a nation whose politicians would rather wage endless wars than provide health benefits to their citizens, and a nation that has its priorities straight.

26. Except you left out one major detail, and that's that they would still have to pay for meds.
Am I right?

3. Had a similar incident this summer with blacking out, numbness, and I later realized memory loss
They did almost the identical battery of tests to come to the conclusion it was caused by high blood pressure. I will file the complex migraine diagnosis in my rolodex if I have problems again.

It was very strange... My head was feeling like a balloon and it literally went numb. My tastebuds also went out as I was eating before I started blacking out. My memory of what happened after blacking out is really messed-up.

9. I'm so sorry and I'm relieved for you that you're on the
road to recovery.

I guess you're on clonidine for your BP? It usually brings down the neurological system and makes a person drowsy. I'm sure there are others. I hope your practitioner finds the right drug for you.

12. Just a long lingering headache is all that remains.
Now, I need to get my two parakeets to stop making their loud screeching sound. Anyone want some free parakeets? Just kidding. I'll move them into a room further away from my bedroom for a while.

Scared the bejeebers out of all of us . I work at a hospital too - so she was fortunate, as you were, to have trained medical personnel right there. She is fine and has not had a repeat episode. Do you have paid sick leave ?

23. Yeah, I have a few days that I will be collecting sick leave on.
I'm still a bit anxious about what the bills for all of this will be after the insurance. All I can do right now is wait and not get upset. So I'm on a political board. Yeah, that'll keep my blood pressure down!

are small, they won't do anything to you.
