How will this round of "Let's all unify" be exploited?
Edited on Sun Sep-11-11 12:41 PM by CoffeeCat
I'm seeing a great deal of "Our nation needs to be unified" rhetoric infused into the
non-stop ten-years-later 9/11 coverage.

This concerns me because after 9/11, "Our nation needs to be unified" was used to grease
the war machine and silence those who knew that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. "You're
either with us or against us" was used to pass the Patriot Act and to create the abomination
that was Guantanamo.

I feel that we should honor the victims of 9/11. However, I don't trust the neocons, like Dick
Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, George Bush, Donald Rumsfeld and the rest of the PNACers who are rearing
their heads and again--and telling us that we must "Never forget" and that "We must again unify."
This gang was featured on the NBC "Sept 11: As it Happened" which aired last night.

This rhetoric...from right-wing warmongers who have spent the last decade leveraging divisive hatemongers
like Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity? The PNACers and the right wing have engaged in
rhetoric that ensured a nation horrendouly divided.

But now, these same warmongering, hate-filled gang of corporatists uses this 10th anniversary as a divisive
for "unification." Why?

After the tenth anniversary passes, we'll find out what they want, I'm sure. This "Unify!" campaign
isn't spinning forward because they've all found peace in their hearts and they yearn for America to be healthy and moving
forward. Most likely, they've got a specific plan and reasons for positioning "Unification" as essential.

I think we should all be aware that this same cast of characters is up to their same games. Possibly,
they want us to widen further the ongoing wars? Maybe they're covering their bases if another terrorist event happens
--and they want to maximize the exploitation potential by insisting that we're "Unified" now, and thus, more willing to
be manipulated if something horrible happened again.

I don't have the answers. I just get a bit angry, suspicious and disgusted when I watch conscience-lacking, divisive
warmongers playing the "We must all be unified NOW!" card when they've spent the last decade ensuring that
we are divided, crippled nation--while the war machine and the corporations gain power and strength.

2. You just nailed probably my biggest problem with all this 9/11 stuff, the lost 'unity' thing.
Unity? Not if it just means 'shut up and march.'

5. What makes me sad about the 9/11 coverage...
...is that we were united. Flags were flying and we were all JUST AMERICANS after
this tragedy. We are capable of real unity, compassion, love and of also dropping
this insane, hateful rhetoric and division.

But the right wing perpetuates it and ensures HATE with their right-wing radio and
tv personalities that position liberals as enemies of the state.

We are all capable of such wondrous, amazing things. However, the powers that be
are psychopaths--and they are smothering any chance at unity, compassion, peace and
love.

That's what is so sad and tragic. I want that feeling. I want a healthy country. I
buy into it--only later to find out that they dangle those platitudes in front of us,
for nefarious purposes.

It's really sick.

3. Unify to them means keep your mouth shut and don't ask questions
Just believe everything we put on our corporate TV programming and everything will be just fine.

6. That's right...
...and I'm wondering why they're trodding out the whole "Unity" schtick again.

What do they want from us?

What's the next big pile of dung these psychopaths will want us to buy into?
