On this 9/11, let us not forget the real tragedy in all this - the US National Debt.

This is what the debt looked like in December of 2000, shortly after Bush was selected by the Supreme Court:

And this is it today:

It's nearly doubled in size, will most likely triple. Remember - Osama Bin Laden's ultimate goal was to bankrupt America, and it looks like the GOP and the tea party may beat him to it.

1. Umm.. I sort of think lives lost here and in our subsequent wars...
are probably more the tragedy, though I certainly do acknowledge and decry the destructive impacts on our economy....

2. Well I think of it this way.
Like I said - Osama's ultimate goal was to bankrupt America, and in that aspect he won. We're spending serious money (and lives, of course) on these pointless wars that we'll never get back. It's going into the hands of the rich, and they're getting only richer.

3. hard to argue that Osama won...
on that score... We have been irreparably damaged and devastatingly changed-- in terms of civil liberties, economy, respect and tolerance towards other cultures/religions... loss of respect throughout the world... no longer a "super-power"...

With short sided, vengeance-driven, historically ignorant and greedy leaders... that's the result--throughout history.
