Well done America! We have won. Bin Laden has failed.
Edited on Sun Sep-11-11 08:00 PM by MannyGoldstein
Bin Laden's plan was to bankrupt America.

From http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aQwY7PFwX6oI&refer=us">Bin Laden Transcript Outlines Plan to Bankrupt U.S. Through War

"The mujahedeen recently forced Bush to resort to emergency funds to continue the fight in Afghanistan and Iraq, which is evidence of the success of the bleed-until-bankruptcy plan -- with Allah's permission" bin Laden said in the video that aired on the Qatar-based satellite network, according to the translation, posted today to al-Jazeera's Web site. The channel aired portions of the statement on Oct. 29 <2004>.

"All that we have to do is to send two mujahedeen to the furthest point East to raise a piece of cloth on which is written al-Qaeda, in order to make the generals race there to cause America to suffer human, economic, and political losses without their achieving for it anything of note other than some benefits for their private companies" bin Laden said, according to the al-Jazeera transcript.

"every dollar of al-Qaeda defeated a million dollars by the permission of Allah, besides the loss of a huge number of jobs."

We are not bankrupt. We have not lost jobs. Bin Laden has failed.

Bin Laden will be a forgotten entry in history's list of epic failures.

4. Is this snark?
I hit "recommend" before this sank in: "We are not bankrupt. We have not lost jobs."

I'm willing to bet you know;

A man over 50 who has been laid off and can't find comparable work.

A recent college graduate who's facing huge student loans and the best job they can find is at WalMart.

Then there's that whole rising national debt, thing, due mostly to the Bush tax cuts and two (count 'em, TWO) "off-budget" wars.

So I'm assuming this is snark.

7. The irony: Al Queda succeeded beyond his wildest dreams in the US, but lost in the Arab world
where he most wanted to succeed.

http://www.juancole.com/2011/09/ten-years-after-911-do-the-arabs-value-democracy-more-than-we-do.html

"All the major assumptions of Bin Laden and his associates have fallen by the wayside in the Arab world. First, it has been shown that dictators such as Hosni Mubarak of Egypt and Zine El Abidine Ben Ali of Tunisia can be overthrown by peaceful crowd action, emulating Gandhi and Martin Luther King. The cry in Tahrir Square last winter in downtown Cairo was “Silmiya, Silmiya!” — Peacefully, peacefully.

Second, it has been demonstrated that the leading edge in political change in the Arab world is relatively secular youth who support labor unions and dignity for working people– i.e. that the most effective revolutionaries are a kind of Arab New Left, not small cells of fundamentalist terrorists. Muslim fundamentalist political parties may benefit from the political opening achieved by the Arab New Left youth movements, but they have mostly tagged along behind the latter.

Third, it has been shown that the United States and Western Europe can be constrained to support the overthrow of even pro-Western dictators if the masses persistently come out and demand democratic change. That is, it is not necessary to attack the US militarily in order to achieve political transition in pro-American regimes such as that of Mubarak.

Ironically, American politicians attempted to pull the wool over our eyes by saying that al-Qaeda hated us for our values. But it turns out that the Arabs are now the peoples sacrificing most for a rule of law, accountability, transparency, and parliamentary governance. One wonders, indeed, if they do not now value those things more than most Americans."

We gave up, or had taken from us, freedom in exchange for alleged security and tanked our economy with wars and unproductive, useless spending.

Osama wanted to scare the US out of the Arab world and make pro-western dictators like Mubarak vulnerable to fundamentalist pressure. Well, Mubarak and others are gone, or going, but not in the way that Osama predicted.

11. Actually, his friends did it all.
Bin Laden didn't bankrupt this country. Our politicians and their masters in the banking industry and military industrial complex did. Bin Laden didn't have to lift a finger. We did this all to ourselves.
