Kilpatrick aide pleads guilty, takes deal in corruption probe
Detroit— One of former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's closest aides cut a deal with federal prosecutors on Monday, agreeing to help with the case against his former high school classmate and boss.

Derrick Miller, a former chief administrative officer for Kilpatrick, pleaded guilty to two charges — including a count of "accepting something corruptly of value"while a city agent and another count of making a false statement on a tax return — that could bring as much as a 10-year prison term and a $200,000 fine.

However, Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Chutkow told U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmonds the government will seek a lesser penalty if he assists the government, as expected, with the case involving the so-called "Kilpatrick Enterprise" accused of rigging bids and steering millions of dollars in contracts to longtime Kilpatrick friend Bobby Ferguson.

Miller is in federal court on Monday morning entering his plea.
