5. watching/listening to 'Walk the Line' right now....

...didn't know this was the day of his passing. Joaquin Phoenix nails the part of 'the man in black'. I understand he spent a lot of time with Cash and was Cash's choice to play the part.

7. Recommend "Composed" by Roseanne Cash

Just finished Roseanne Cash's (Johnny's daughter) autobiography which I highly recommend if you are a fan of either Cash.
Johnny, according to Roseanne, was a warm, loving man and her account differs greatly from the "I Walk the Line" film version. I did love the movie, but I'll take the real man.
Always like to thank my "big" sister for taking a young teenage fan (and "little" brother)to Carnegie Hall in the mid-to-late 60's - probably '67. We saw Johnny and June, with the whole Carter Family, including Maybelle, the great Carl Perkins (who later signed our album cover!), and the Statler Brothers - my first concert. I used to hang out in big Sis's room and play records!
We hung around the back door hoping for a autograph after the show. Johnny and June came out quick and hustled right into a waiting Caddie. Mr. Perkins ambled out a short time later carrying his guitar in case. He warmly greeted us, put down his guitar and signed, asked me if I enjoyed the show! We chatted briefly and Mr. Perkins walked away, case in hand - no car, nobody with him. What a great memory of that night!

8. Rosanne's "Black Cadillac" album...

...Johnny, her mother (Vivian Liberto), and her stepmother (June Carter Cash) all died within the two years preceding the album. That added to the writing, naturally, but in a "universal" sense, it's a concept album about dealing with grief and loss.



The closing track is "0 71"...

The album ends with a track called '0 71', which is nothing but 71 seconds of silence, one for each year of her parents' lives. She says it is the only true tribute song on the record; I wondered if it wasn't self-indulgent. 'As a record buyer, you can click past it,' she says. 'I put it on there for me.'

12. I never cared for country music but I always loved Johnny Cash's songs..I guess that doesn't make

much sense..but he was different, in a grand way.

Ring of Fire..great guitar play....still love it.

Walk the Line was a terrific tribute film and Reese Witherspoon did a fabulous job as June Carter.

He actually said to me: "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash" and shook my hand.

18. My husband's Grandma on his Mom's side and Johnny Cash's

Mother were sisters. We inherited some neat pictures from family reunions; husband was a kid, but says he remembers Johnny was a nice man. Sent him an autographed picture "To my cousin, Wayne;" he even kept the envelope it came in.
