can't Anonymous do something to stop the Execution of Troy Davis?
Since the President can't seem to pardon Troy Davis.. and Congress can't seem to do it

and we all know GA won't do it.

Can't Anonymous free him ? We all know he is innocent. It is beyond horrific.

I think I have signed 10 petitions in the last 5 days, ,many from the same groups I have signed before in these last 5 years.

1. ummm... and they would do this how?
Script kiddies have pretty much no chance to stop a state sponsored execution.

2. You're asking for direct action.
The President and Congress have no interest in proper justice. I don't think Anonymous has any more power than anyone else outside of an online action. Direct Action, on the other hand, is what is needed.

4. What, do you want them to take down the Georgia prison system's website?
Bad 90's movie cliches aside, hackers aren't magic. They can't change things that aren't controlled by computers to which they have access.

Also, Anonymous is Not Your Personal Army. It's not the job of teenage boys who can't get laid to save the fucking world.

8. It's not an execution; it's MURDER.

1. Troy Davis' name was turned in to the police by the man who should have been investigated instead of Davis. Knowing that he was wanted for murder, Davis turned himself in, mistakenly thinking the police would discover through its investigation that Davis was innocent.

2. Seven of nine witnesses in original trial have recanted their testimonies.

3. Some of these witnesses have stated that their original statements were the result of police intimidation.

4. Other than the unreliable witness testimonies, the prosecution had NO HARD EVIDENCE against Davis.

5. During the post-conviction habeas process, Davis’ ability to gather evidence & to provide an innocence claim was hampered by a two-thirds budget cut for the Georgia Resource Center, reducing the number of staff attorneys to two, which were representing 80 prisoners.

6. In addition, due to the Anti-Terrorism & Effective Death Penalty Act, time limits on access to the federal appeals process by death-row prisoners severely hurt Davis’ case.

It's very much like the Oklahoma v. Ron Williamson case, except Ron was eventually set free. It was the subject of John Grisham's book, "An Innocent Man: Murder & Injustice In a Small Town" (A couple of lines from the book description on Amazon: If you believe that in America you are innocent until proven guilty, this book will shock you. If you believe in the death penalty, this book will disturb you. If you believe the criminal justice system is fair, this book will infuriate you.)

11. I think Anonymous can be very powerful along with the protests of the people
Edited on Tue Sep-13-11 08:11 AM by annm4peace
if they weren't then why is so many intelligence agencies going after them ?

there have been so many petitions, marches, rallies, civil disobedience and letters from very respected and important people.

I don't have faith in Obama, Congress, Justice Dept..

I guess after seeing what the did to BART in the bay area I see them as potential help.

There been thousands of people signing these petitions when the corp media won't even let others know of the petitions.

we need both the people and a group like Anonymous

"Anonymous has apparently made good on a promise to wreak havoc on the Web site of the Bay Area Rapid Transit System today, although not exactly as planned.

Earlier, the amorphous collective had threatened to take Bart.gov offline for six hours today, or twice the amount of time BART managers took cell phone service offline at some BART stations Thursday night in order to head off a planned protest then. The distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack was supposed to begin at noon pacific time, according to a release from Anonymous.

As of 30 minutes past noon, the BART site was still online but running a little slow and with one notable change to the mybart.org Web site, which currently displays the Anonymous logo as seen below."

12. Wait--why can't the President pardon him?
Is there an actual reason other than lack of political will?

14. Anon = the buzzing of flys.
Their whole movement, organization, cell or whatever the fuck you want to call them is pretty much a cluster fuck of annoying limp dicks.

Stop or even delay an execution... I don't think so.

Hurt or harass a cat however, and they'll make it their mission in life to track the offender down and bring the wrath of God down on their heads.

15. Are you expecting Anonymous to shut down the electric generator inside the prison?
Because even if Anonymous shut down the power grid, the prison would run on its own generator.

16. As a GA resident and supporter of the death penalty as an option, I do not want Davis executed

It doesn't pass my certainty of agency requirement.

Having said that, I was stunned Davis's lawyer did not call Red Coles to the stand for his last change hearing. They needed to prove innocence at that hearing and not coercion or incorrect testimony. They needed the smoking gun.
