Vatican: Sex abuse case at Hague "ludicrous" stunt

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — The Vatican's lawyer says an attempt by clergy sex abuse victims to bring a case against the pope and top Vatican officials to the International Criminal Court is a "ludicrous" publicity stunt.

Jeffrey Lena, who represents the Vatican in U.S. sex abuse cases, says the request for the Hague tribunal to launch an investigation into possible crimes against humanity is a "misuse of international judicial processes."

The Center for Constitutional Rights, a New York-based nonprofit legal group, requested the inquiry Tuesday on behalf of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, arguing that the global church has maintained a "long-standing and pervasive system of sexual violence" despite promises to swiftly oust predators. ............(more)

1. The Vatican needs to answer for what they have done.
And it gets pretty sickening to watch individual diocese go bankrupt when everyone and their cousin knows that the church is one entity and that they pope is sitting on a treasure trove of cash while victims that win damages have to just go without because the diocese is "bankrupt."

2. So why was I (and many other boys in my class) tortured at age 6
by Catholic nuns?

Isn't torture a crime against humanity?

Or only the bad guys can be accused of?

3. I agree, it is ludicrous
Of course, if the Vatican had been a little more assiduous about policing itself and spent a little less time victimizing its victims all over again, this little exercise in jurisprudence wouldn't be necessary. Hard to hear a complaint about the natural and normal consequences that ensue from such poor behavior.
