Bloomberg: Obama's chances at re-election at 29%
http://media.bloomberg.com/bb/avfile/rcBTdobXyUWg

In the 2012 election, do you anticipate you will definitely vote for President Obama, consider voting for
another candidate, or definitely vote for another candidate?
29 Definitely Obama
21 Consider voting for another candidate
43 Definitely vote for another candidate
2 Will not vote (VOL)
5 Not sure

The thread title may be a bit misleading, but I didn't feel like I could explain it fully in the title without being just as misleading in the other direction. I could have said "50% might vote for Obama", but that isn't all that accurate.

1. Interesting, shows that if you polled him directly against a Repuke, he'd probably
be at 50%, but much of that is apparently not set in stone.

2. how about "only 29% would definitely vote for Obama"?
It has nothing to do with Obama's chances of reelection. That's more than "a bit" misleading.

3. and I am really disappointed in bloomberg for always having repukes like those who worked on the
mccain camp
It isn't just bloomberg, it is the media in general asking Obama's haters their opinion on his poll numbers.

4. It's a mistake for any Dems to take Obama's reelection for granted,
even with the potential crop of Republican nominees.

If conservatives, right wingers, teahadists smell blood in the water and a good chance to bring down Obama they will turn out and support the Republican candidate. They will bury their differences to do this.

If that is coupled with Liberals and Progressives being so disappointed and disenchanted with Obama that they either do not vote for the presidency or vote for a third party, not being able to bring themselves to support Obama to prevent the Republican from winning, then many of us will need to look for political asylum in Canada (like they would have us or want us).

7. To me, many countries anymore would not willingly embrace Americans looking
for political asylum. It's the perception, not the individual ... 2012 is going to be very treacherous IMO, I think there is so much dissension within the democratic party. And I don't think the WH, etc. is reading "all" of the party very well, there is so much disappointment.

12. Republicans know they will have to run America like apartheid South Africa
if they are to retain any power with the change in demographics in 30 years where the collective minorities will be a majority and that's a big problem for the White Man's Party.

If the White House is somehow lost next year and with Republicans likely to take the Senate they would control everything and would work quickly to dismantle anything that was ever held dear by the Democratic Party.

Moving to another country is only an option for those with enough money to do it. For most of us we are just shit out of luck.

6. Put him up against Bachmann, Perry, or
some other RepubliCON, SPECIFICALLY, and his "chances" jump to 55, or 85 percent.
Polls, like this one can be designed to come up with results that one desires to hear.

16. He's likely to be up against Mitt, I agree against a flesh and blood republican
he should do somewhat better, but this is discouraging to say the least.

8. Ask - if Palin is the other candidate, who do you "definitely" vote for?
Edited on Wed Sep-14-11 09:40 AM by bhikkhu
...and you get a whole different kind of number, as an example.

The bloomberg poll sounds straightforward, but it takes advantage of the inability of many to imagine their own actions in a real scenario - Obama still beats every actual repug, when polled against actual repugs.

10. How silly. You've confused the percentage voting for one choice
in that poll with probability. Truly, you've misunderstood the poll and how probabilities are calculated.

Better luck next time.

13. That 29% definitely for Obama and 43% definitely for another candidate is NOT a good sign
I mean, come-on, Obama would have to capture most of those who say they would consider voting for another candidate.

14. Originally, I was going to leave the ballot blank for president...
now, since complete and utter stupidity has taken over the nation in the form of cement head perry (sadly, my governor), I will be voting for Obama, not because I think he's doing a great job, but because I know the colossally bad, epically bad, disastrously bad job cement head perry would do.

The choice it me is: either run in the burning building and saving the people inside possibly hurting myself or letting the building burn and allowing the people inside get killed. I'm running in.

15. Yeah. Once again I feel stuck with voting against someone for President. I hate this
stupid election system. It's the same one that gave Maine governor LePage with a whopping 38% of the vote.

A complete open lottery.

Everyone in the US is eligible. No one can not enter.

If you win and are asked to serve, you can choose to opt out if picked. They the lottery begins again.

This goes for congress, the supreme court and the presidency.

All have term limits. All have a base salary that is only raised when voted on by the nation.

No more career politicians. Direct voice of the people. We would get a diverse government. With a variety of opinion.

Everything from the peace loving post hippy in San Fran to the hard core right wing extremest war monger. But honestly, how would that be different than it is today?

The best part is, more than likely, people would be forced to work together.

will stick with O.

especially once the campaign starts.
