4. It's funny how distorted the term redneck has become in this country.
Redneck was a term given to WV unionized coal miners that went off to fight for non union miners to get unionized.

They were a hero of the American worker when the term was given to them.

5. No, the term is older than that, even in American usage.
It applied to Scotch-Irish Presbyterians who settled the Appalachian region initially and proved very troublesome, argumentative and belligerenet both to government and the Indians whose land they moved onto.
