Ai Kago in apparent suicide attempt



TOKYO —

Ai Kago, the 23-year-old former Morning Musume member and television personality, was found on the floor of her apartment by her agency staff Sunday, following an apparent suicide attempt, Sankei Shimbun and other media reported.

An employee from her talent management agency was dispatched to her home after Kago, speaking on the telephone, intimated she was considering suicide. Police officials state she had sustained several self-inflicted but shallow cuts to her wrists. Police said she had also taken prescription drugs, but that her life is not in danger and she’s expected to make a full physical recovery.

Kago has reportedly been depressed since last week, when her boyfriend, Haruhiko Ando, 44, with whom she lives, was arrested for alleged attempted extortion and alleged connections to an organized crime organization. Kago was also taken in for questioning by police.

Kago has had a troubled past and has admitted to self-harm and contemplating suicide before. She was fired from Morning Musume while still a teenager for underage smoking and dating a much older man. Later, in 2009 it was alleged that Kago had a relationship with 33-year-old actor Hidejiro Mizumoto. Mizumoto’s wife Asato sued them both, stating that she had proof that the affair had taken place. On May 24, 2009, a family court found in Asato’s favor. A divorce was granted and Mizumoto was order to hand over his home in Kumamoto and his car to Asato, as well as 300,000 yen in child support every month for his three children.

One of my favorite singers, I follow her on Twitter. She has a huge following, despite the fact her music career
was nearly over. Now it will be..after this. She is lucky to be alive...still, it saddens me to think she came to the conclusion that this was the only way to stop her suffering..

2. She will be forced to get help

I am sure, once released from the hospital, she will be forced into Rehab for a long, long time. Her career is over. She will no longer be allowed to perform in any kind of capacity. Hopefully she has friends and family to help support her and keep her safe.

It's very difficult to live under the microscope as celebrities do. I'm sure she was under tremendous stress.

Japan may have a huge population but its still a small Island nation, and Celebrities there are always crossing over, where singers become actors, and idols. Its also a nation known for a high suicide rate. One of the most stunning came from a beloved member of the rock band X-Japan. Hideto Matsumoto, known as Hide was found dead, having hung himself
with a towel after a night out of drinking.


Fans went into total shock, as X-Japan had been super popular in Japan. It took a long time for many to recover from this, and nearly brought the band to point of quitting altogether. (more about him here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hide_%28musician%29)

8. She is still so very young, there is no reason for her career to be over.

If she handles it right, she could come back from this with the strength of a survivor, and move beyond being just a teen pop star.
