Sony asks gamers to sign new terms or face PSN ban

Sony is preparing to ban gamers from the PlayStation Network (PSN) unless they waive the right to collectively sue it over future security breaches.

The firm has amended PSN's terms and conditions and users have to agree to them next time they log in.

The move comes months after a string of hacking attacks compromised over 100 million accounts of the PlayStation Network subscribers.

It is, however, possible to opt out of the agreement within the next 30 days.

4. Ummm... No!

First, this is a retroactive agreement that covers all units purchased since the release of the system (11/17/2006). Second, access to the network is required for more than on-line gaming. Most new games released require an update to either the game itself or the PS3 firmware before they can be played at all. Access to streaming media services is not possible without access to the PlayStation Network. Updates that allow Blu Ray movies to play correctly require updates provided through the PlayStation network. Account management functions require access to the PlayStation Network. The choice is not "ours".

For the record I do not own a Sony gaming device.
