it finally sprinkled and cooled to 70 again. Whew!

This is so weird how one area has been baking in record numbers while another has been drowning in record numbers.

21. and lean to the east at Austin
to put out the Bastrop fires, only 50% contained at this point.

1500 houses gone...thousands of acres burned, including farms and state parks

I'm in Dallas.

It has been a long, dry summer. It was awful.

Then...today...RAIN! Just a little. But it's something.

26. Your neighbors in West/Central Arkansas are celebrating with you.
Was it enough to douse those fires?
We are still under an extreme fire watch and Burn Ban here (Ouachita Mountains, West Arkansas)

A day long soaking rain yesterday,
another inch heavy rainfall this morning,
more predicted tomorrow.

The rain that fell yesterday was more rain than we have gotten since last April.
We have 4 month old chickens that had never experienced RAIN,
and didn't know what was happening.

Funny anecdote:
Our Rain Gauge was BROKEN due to the extended drought this Summer.
It is a decorative brass garden gauge that depends on a sponge floating on rain water in a container.
The sponge had dried out and crumbled over the Summer due to lack of moisture.
You KNOW it has been bad when the rain gauge breaks because it is too dry.

Yesterday was also a record LOW for Little Rock,
and probably for us too in West Arkansas.

Delightful.
