A series of four statues depicting the gait of Terry Fox running on his artificial leg have been unveiled. Artist Douglas Coupland says his statues mean that hundreds of years from now, people will be reminded of Fox's legacy.

31 years later and communities all across Canada still raise funds, host runs and school activities and raise millions for what he believed in so much.

1. I remember seeing Terry when he ran through my hometown
then for many years I drove past the monument (statue) in Thunder Bay.

truly a hero.
His legacy lives on.

His Mother, Betty passed away just recently.

is really something, I've only seen it in pictures, but the artist did a good job.

I wish I'd seen him run.

3. He absolutely is a hero.
It's too bad Americans don't know his story, because they would be blown away if they did. Terry ran two thirds of the way across Canada on one leg. A 26 mile marathon a day. There aren't enough superlatives to do Terry justice.

whatever it's worth.

5. It was so sad when he got sick again in Thunder Bay. He was just devastated.
So were we all.

6. I can imagine.
I was just rereading his story and diary along the route, it's so heart-wrenching. Made me cry.

My best friend died at the age of 13 from Osteosarcoma that later spread to her lungs. She had her leg amputated, just like Terry did, We raised what we could to send her to England for treatment that wasn't available here then. I believe it was thirteen thousand from a town of 120 people. I just don't understand why we can't find a cure. It's been killing for so long.

7. Cancer is just cells that wear down. There are instructions on each set of genes
that say "one time, copy this sell". If you wear down your lung cells by smoking, your cervical cells by getting the hpv virus, you skin sells by getting burnt by the sun, they send out instructions to "one time copy this cell" to replace the dead cells. You have cancer when the cells are worn down enough to drop the "one time" instruction. The cancer cells then say just "copy this cell". So cancer takes ahold. Different families or people have different rates (genes) at which the cells get worn down. So simply living will cause cancer in some people. Others abuse their body and wear down cells faster than normal. There will always be cancer I think. But the cures cannot come fast enough.
