1. I sincerely hope they pass everyone by.
Irene and Lee left so much devastation behind them we can't afford another hit.

4. Irene was plenty of destruction for me.
I lost power for a week and the neighbors next door lost two trees to the storm. And on top of that, it destroyed gardens and crop fields across the region. Pumpkin patches were obliterated and the corn harvest was halved. I lost 80% of my tomatoes, 100% of the peppers, and 60% of my beans. It sucks a lot since I was providing most of my garden harvest to my neighbors to help them through the times.

9. I know! I'm glad I missed the "It was hype" threads.
I stood out there and could only shake my head at the damage to my garden. The wind ripped my cucumber vines to pieces and bent the cages holding the tomatoes completely sideways. Branches from trees came down and plowed right across my garden which destroyed my beans and peppers. Part of this was caused by the fact that I live about 550 feet above sea level on one of the tallest hills in this county, and there was nothing taller to the South or East to block the winds. We took some terrifying gusts.

Local farmers were hurt bad. The pumpkin loss will make this October interesting since we will have so few for sale locally. On top of all this was a rough start to the growing season. It frosted in late May, and remained cool straight through June causing plants like tomatoes to grow very slowly. And then it dropped to 37F on Friday Night. Now the frost paranoia has set in.

Also a note: Many of the trees are turning brown and showing signs of wind burn damage. The Fall foliage season is big in New England and provides a beautiful display to take your mind off of the horrible winter you are about to experience. I fear this year's display will be rather dull.

6. My favorite tunnel is the one at the New River State Park between Galax and Fries
It's about 250 miles from the coast.

Are you saying that's in danger?

Really and truly freaking out now.

10. How about those two in the Pacific?
Roke looks like it's on a collision course with the Fukushima Prefecture and the Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant:

Lets just hope it doesn't make matters at the plant worse.
