NATO Launches massive bombing raids on Sirte. No Civilians injured.

:sarcasm: :sarcasm:

Of course it is vaguely possible that when you blow-up an apartment block and collapse a hotel a couple people might be hurt. But these strikes are only aimed at all the surface to air missiles that were missed by the 20,000 other bombing sorties.

Nato strikes 'kill 354', says Gaddafi's spokesman

By Kim Sengupta outside Bani Walid

Nato air strikes during Friday night killed a total of 354 people in the loyalist stronghold of Sirte, Colonel Gaddafi's birthplace, the former spokesman for the Libyan regime claimed yesterday.

The bombing of the city's main hotel and an apartment block left 700 injured with 89 others missing, according to Moussa Ibrahim, who is believed to be in the city currently under siege from rebel forces. There were no independent means to verify the report, with Sirte effectively cut off since Gaddafi was overthrown.

9. Oh, they will acquire that technology someday.
Probably right after they change all of the dead soldiers into civilian clothes.

18. That's what Ibrahim ALLEGES
Edited on Mon Sep-19-11 12:08 AM by pinboy3niner
The reason some here question that is because Ibrahim has a history of making false claims, especially about 'civilian casualties' of NATO airstrikes. Like 'Baghdad Bob,' Ibrahim has come to be known as 'Tripoli Tom.'

Claims by both sides in the conflict should be treated merely as allegations, not as Gospel. Why give automatic credence to one side's claims--but not the other? Both are subject to the same standards of evidence, yet some seize on this unsupported claim as if it is fact.

2. Disgusting
Wasn't NATO meant to be a defensive alliance? Now they're all about imperialism and dropping those bombs on places where there are lots of brown people and loads of crude oil reserves. Libya obviously has both.

This is a WAR CRIME.

10. Hell, imagine what 2.7 MILLION TONS of bombs would do to a country of 72 Million!
That was the amount dropped on Germany in WWII. Think about it.

5. Total number of HUMANITRIAN RAIDS was over 21 Thousand as of Sept 1. JOY TO THE WORLD!

The majority of these NATO claimed to be "non-strike." Only about 8,000 were bombing strikes. Of course, no civilians are ever injured.

http://blogs.channel4.com/factcheck/factcheck-is-britain-natos-top-gun-in-libya/7648

Nato aircraft have clocked up a total of 21,090 sorties (missions) in Libya since March 31.

And of these, the US was easily the biggest contributor – latest Pentagon figures show American sorties accounted for a quarter of the total.

But the Americans flew far less strike sorties. These are missions that engage an enemy target (though they don’t necessarily involve dropping bombs or firing missiles).

Just eight of Nato’s 28 members were prepared to attack, and these eight totted up 7,920 strike sorties (though one – Norway – withdrew last month).

Nato doesn’t give a breakdown of which countries did what, so the best we have to go on are the figures quoted by the NATO-affiliated foreign policy think-tank Atlantic Council.

20. That's a good word 'humaniterrorism'!
They have to destroy everything because then they have to bring in all those 'conractors' to profit from 'rebuilding', like KB&R and Halliburton who are already there. I guess this is how they calmed Halliburton, who complained about the interference with the contracts they already had. Probably told them 'not to worry, we're going to make some more work for you'.

Same formula as Iraq. First you destroy it, then rather than give the work to the people who live there you contract it out to Western contractors. Then, those contractors will need 'protection'. That is where Blackwater and Caci come in. Not 'boots on the ground' in the real sense of the ward but a sneaky way to keep control over the 'democracies' we are creating.

NATO never KILLS anyone, get real. There is sometimes, unfortunately what is known as 'collateral damage' but they 'don't do body counts' as everyone should remember. These are not people to them. And if they are killed by NATO's humanitarian bombs, they will simply slap the label 'terorist' on them. I saw enough photos of those 'terrorists' from Iraq, thanks to people like Dahr Jamail, many of whom were babies. Tiny terrorists.

I was looking at some video of Libya last night before NATO bombed it. It was a pretty nice place. And it seems that in Libya under Qadaffi owning a home was a 'right'. So when a couple got married, the state gave them part of the money to buy a house. Healthcare was free, education also. And when they got married Libyans were given money by the state.

I have a feeling Libyans will not be getting all that good stuff anymore. From now, they will live the way we do. No HC, no money to buy a home, no education unless you're rich. Just like Iraq.

We have given democracy a bad name. I remember when Egyptian protesters were asked what kind of government they wanted, assuming the answer would be 'democracy' and they said 'we do not want a US style democracy, like Iraq.

21. I was looking earlier at some pictures of Libya and really
beautiful buildings that are now completely destroyed. But yes, what a golden opportunity for that rebuilding and all those things you mention. Pointing out the rights people had pre-humaniterrorism will get you no praise, but yes, all those things are true. What the people will face now, I also hope will be nothing like those in Iraq live with. It's just sad. How many of those millions / billions? spent to destroy could feed the starving and hungry around the world, educate the illiterate, ensure health-care for all? What makes me so sick is the waste ...... not just of human beings, but the opportunity each dollar spent on killing robs from a child in need of food, water, shelter. This world is so f'ed up!
