I imagine everyone at DU knows Ron Suskind has come out with a new book entitled
Confidence Men. In the book Suskind makes a number of negative statements against the Obama White House. It is likely that most of the people at DU thought the book was inaccurate. Well, about an hour ago the book was just about completely debunked by Ann Curry on NBC's Today Show. Suskind kept claiming that everyone who is complaining about the book had been quoted and allowed to respond to the book. On just about every occasion Ann Curry listed the actual quote given by the person in question.
Regarding Larry Summers, Curry stated that Suskind wrote that Summers claimed Obama was in over his head and did not lead the White House at the beginning of his term. Curry then pointed out that Summers claimed that the White House was dealing with a large number of problems and did not have enough people to deal with all the problems. Suskind responded saying when he first asked Summers about the comment Summers denied making the quote. Suskind then told Summers a number of people had claimed Summers had made the quote. Summers responded by trying to explain what he had meant.
The Anita Dunn quote was also debunked. When confronted about the Dunn quote Suskind claimed that everything was recorded, he had given the tapes to the Washington Post, and the Washington Post had confirmed his account. Curry responded by pointing out that Dunn had actually said "If not for President Obama the White House would have been a hostile work environment". Suskind responded that when he approached Dunn she had asked if the quote could be put in the past tense.
It seems that Mr. Suskind wanted to write a particular book. After doing research, Mr. Suskind realized the facts did not match the book he wanted to write. Therefore, Mr. Suskind distorted the fact to get the book he wanted.
