Holy shi-eeeeeeeeet, right in my own backyard!
Tea Party campaigns for Constitution education in Redondo schoolsNationally and locally in Redondo Beach, the political organization has launched a campaign to ensure that school districts abide by a 2004 federal law mandating that schools dedicate much of this week to teaching the Constitution.
However, at least one of the materials the Tea Party is suggesting for schools locally and nationally is steeped in controversy.
At issue is a movie called "A More Perfect Union," a film about the signing of the Constitution distributed by a conservative group that describes the founding of the United States as a divine miracle, and whose late founder is known for his inflammatory writings on communism and slavery.
A few weeks ago, in keeping with a call from the Tea Party Patriots - which comprises 1,000 chapters nationally - the South Bay Tea Party provided 14 copies of the movie to administrators of the Redondo Unified School District, who vetted the film and agreed to place it on a list of recommendations for teachers to use this week.
