Martha Stewart's bizarre injury

Martha Stewart was sent to the emergency room on Tuesday night after one of her beloved dogs left the domestic diva with a cut on her face.

On Thursday, Stewart revealed how the incident happened, blogging that the culprit was little Francesca, a French bulldog whom she leaned down to “whisper goodbye” to, an act which unfortunately caught the canine off guard.

“I must have startled her, because she bolted upright with such force that she hit me in the face like a boxing glove hitting an opponent’s face,” Stewart wrote on her personal blog.

“I was entirely startled and my neck snapped back,” Stewart continued. “I felt a bit of whiplash as blood gushed forth from my split lip.” ...............(more)

1. One time I bent over to pet my dog as

she was jumping up to greet me, the top of her head hit my lip, didn't cut it but it swelled up. :-( My poor doggy probably ended up with a headache. :-(

21. That' s happened to me a lot. I remember taking a nap with

four of my dachshunds who were just about a year old. What a great thing sleeping with four little pups laying all over you. Well, one startled the other and me too. I sat up and the sweetest one, my Tippy, lunged and bit for him. He grabbed my chin instead and I reared up, him hanging from my chin. Had a terrible bite. Went to the hospital and got bacitracin. Rubbed it on about three times a day for three days and it was almost completely healed. I am the apostle of bacitracin. Anyone with a grabby dog should keep some handy. :-D ^..^

4. My dog jumped up into the face of our neighbor and gave her a fat lip.

His big muzzle bonked her in the mouth. It was embarrassing. I can see this happening.

5. My first dog was a real jumper.

He got me in the chin with the top of his bony head, with enough force it chipped my tooth. THAT didn't feel good.

He also did a real number on my dad's knee one time. We were walking in the woods, and the path was icy. We called the dog, and he came running and couldn't stop on the ice --it was like bowling, and the both went flying.

He was a good boy, though. Lived to be almost 15, which was really good for a springer.

8. I had something similar happen

Was bent over petting my english pointer, whose head was down below level. As I lowered my head to give her a smooch on the top of her head, she lifted her head quickly for some reason, and the top of her head hit me on the lip...lip hit my teeth which cut my lip.

It hurt like the dickens. You'd think I'd know better - years ago, I'd bent down to move a salt block out of the way of my horse, who was bent over munching some hay - something startled her and as she lifted up, she slammed into the side of my face. Black and blue cheekbone, and the pain was intense. I almost passed out from it. Shortly after that, by happenstance, I heard of someone locally who was actually killed that way in a freak accident, and this brought it home in such a way that I never did that again around a horse.

And actually, my split lip hurt so badly that I don't take a chance with my beloved dog anymore, either.

he didn't mean to hurt, but that dogs skull was solid as a rock.

That's the ONE thing we have in common, probably--we absolutely adore our pets no matter what.

I was about to put this here as well. As someone who has been hit so hard in the nose with a toddler's head that I started getting chronic sinus infections, I warn all future parents to never:
-Lean over your kid to give them a kiss on their head. Pick them up instead. Right as you are leaning over their head, no doubt they will get the urge to jump upwards with extreme exhuberance, smashing their cute little head right into your noggin.
-try to hold on to a toddler who wants to get down off of your lap. Just let them go. Otherwise you will soon have a bucking bronco on your lap whose head will slam into your face before you can duck out of the way.
-stay away from toddlers swinging toys. The toy will always win.

I wish someone would have warned me! lol!

I can totally see this happening with a pet as well.

19. Had a rex cat do something similar to me in the exam room years ago.

I leaned over it on the exam table while ausculting its chest and it exploded upward (they can be difficult cats) into my face. It's spine hit right where my upper lip joins the nose, and I thought my nose was broken it hurt so bad. Had to have xrays. Wasn't broken, but it bruised up and IIRC I had bruises under my eyes for a few days anyway.

Ow ow ow, hurts just thinking about it again.

24. my rex cat Caindy tried to leap across the bed just as I sat up, and bonked me

literally upside my head. We both saw stars, and head bumps the next day. Ironically she is named for two DUers. So I figured she deserves a shout out.
And my other cat Little Girl hauled off and punched me in the face once, but I deserved it.

25. My dog broke my nose doing something similar.

I bent down to kiss her snout and she jumped up to give me one of her fabulous hugs at the same time. We met mid-bend-jump and wham....broken nose. It was a minor break, but a break it was!
