4. If he actually got close to the building, he's lucky he didn't get shot.
The snipers on the rooftop are not for show.

7. I suspect that shooting nutcase fence jumpers would be seen as bad PR.

11. I reminded myself of great lines from "The Big Red One"
The Sergeant: Killing insane people is not good for public relations.

Griff: Killing sane people is okay?

The Sergeant: That's right.

5. I don't understand how this can happen. It seems like the tourists
can be a bit distracting to the police and I don't always see the sharpshooters on the roof. There better be a good explanation for this.

8. White House Fence Jumper Climbs Over Western Entrance Gate, Runs Into Secret Service
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/20/white-house-fence-jumper_n_972559.html

WASHINGTON — A man climbed over the White House fence near its western entrance gate and ran toward the presidential residence Tuesday evening before he was apprehended by uniformed Secret Service officers, authorities said.

No one was injured, said Max Milien, a spokesman for the Secret Service. The man's name was not released.

The man carried a backpack as he clambered over the fence, then ran with his arms outstretched directly toward officers who ordered him to the ground with their weapons drawn. The backpack was later deemed to be safe, Milien said.

The episode occurred around 6:35 p.m. EDT as tourists and passers-by walked on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House. Officers immediately evacuated the avenue and Lafayette Square across from the White House.

13. Maybe he should have been.
He could have been a suicide bomber with a backpack full of explosives and/or something worse. Rest assured, our enemies have taken notice.

15. Ever since 9/11, our enemies have been in retreat. It was their worst mistake.
Of course, as expensive as the attack was for us, our retaliation has proven must costlier.

If anyone attacked us and killed the President, there would be U.S. troops in every country from western Africa to far east Asia.

14. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often. It's not a terribly high fence.
And it's not terribly far from the building.
